Rebate: tell me what to do

I just bought an HMC150. I bought it at 10PM January 19th. Now I find out there's a great promotion for any purchase after Jan 20th.

Am I screwed because I was two hours early or do you think panasonic could make an exception...?

Hint hint, Jan... lol

I've been a loyal customer since the DVX, then the HVX, then the HMC, I know broadcasters spend much more, but those batteries are almost 200$ each, and I could really use it.

Please advise, and thank you for any and all help anyone can give even if it isn't pleasant news.

Where did you buy it?

I would just talk to your AUTHORIZED DEALER and have them just refund/repurchase for you.

They can do it in house and you will have a new receipt.

Perhaps you can check there first but I am very interested in what Jan has to say about this.

ESTEBEVERDE offers some great advice. The tough part about rebates is that they all stand to be audited, and the one thing that has to be consistant is the application of the rules. No one wants to have the audit done and be found out.

Best,

Jan

Just have a refund and buy it again a few days later

He doesn't need to do that.

He can have it refunded and repurchased just one transaction after the other.

He doesn't even need to physically return the camera.

The merchant surely knows how to process this.

If the merchant gives him any grief he should insist or simply return the camera and buy from a merchant with better service.

OK, thank you all so much for your advice and help.

And especially thank you Jan for taking the time out of your hectic schedule to weigh in on this.

BTW, I called Panasonic already and spoke with a rep, they gave me a bunch of case numbers, and said they'd have to check it out with another "wing" I guess. But they said it shouldn't be a problem, and I spoke to two people and they both were amazingly kind, helpful, empathetic, and promised to do their best to help me out. I really feel like the service was above and beyond, and I don't want to get into a whole 'nother subject, but the level of service was good enough that I would be reluctant to move to another company's camera despite what is released. I feel like my loyalty to Pannasonic is being rewarded rather than taken for granted which is what so many other companies do.

That all said, I will contact BHphotovideo to have them do the repurchase; if only to make panny's job easier.

Thanks once again!

If it's BHphotovideo I would hope they would take care of it in just a few seconds or so.

At worst 5 minutes.

Please let us know how they treat you especially if they treat you GOOD so we know where to spend our money!

ESTEBEVERDE: thank you so much for your help and setting this thread in motion so to speak.

I just got off the phone with BHphotovideo. The rep I spoke with said they do not to repurchases (he did give me a little grief at first), but said it would be moot anyway because the invoice date for my purchase is the 21st of Jan.

He was very nice once we talked and I explained the situation, and I ended up thanking him up one side and down the other for being so competent and helpful.

But back to the mechanics in case this helps anyone else...

So I was looking at the web order date. He said to look at the invoice date; the invoice date is the real purchase date, because they do not charge and run the purchase until they begin to process it, and that occurred on the 21st of January, which qualifies me for the rebate! He said this happens a lot and the web order date should not have been printed on the actual physical invoice. The web order date is for the web records only.

So it looks like I'm in the clear. Also, just to be sure my memory isn't playing tricks on me, I was correct, the order submission occurred at 1:06AM EST Jan 20th, and 10:06PM Jan 19th PST. Once again, it doesn't matter because the purchase didn't occur until the 21st.

So that's the story. He told me how to mark the invoice so Panny processing won't get confused like I did. (Although he also said they'd know right off the bat which date to look at, but be safe anyway.)

So thanks one more time to everyone here. I'm so glad this turned out ok. That's a hell of a good rebate, and I'd hate to miss out.

BTW, Jan, I'm loving the camera!!! (I went from an original DVX to an original HVX [ or as you guys would say a 100 to a 200], now to the HMC150, and honestly I think this is the best camera out of the three. I was a tad dissapointed with the HVX's bulk and noise. I feel like the HMC really is the successor to the DVX which had been my favorite camera ever. This now holds the crown! It's the cleanest image I've ever seen, and I don't need to use PCMCIA interfaces anymore. I have no broadcast needs so this really is the perfect cam for me. I love the Prorez workflow in FCP, though I wish HQ was an option.)

P.S. You know what would be great for the people still on the P2 bandwagon, is a P2 expresscard, with an adapter for the camera, then you can just pop the expresscard out and plunk it right in to FCP on a MBP. I love only needing 1 comp for offload+editing now, rather than two seperate devices. Not the worst workflow before, and definitely better than tape IMO, but SD cards are so much easier. And though I think the AVC- PH codec is awesome as is, I do hope they can crank the bitrate up in the future, hopefully with firmware once computers get enough power to handle it. Class 6 sd cards could easily handle 40mbps sustained. I can't even imagine the robustness. Imagine the quality on bluray players! (They can go to 36mbps right?)
