hey guys

what is the smallest sized pelican case i can purchase that will fit my HMC150 and 35mm adapter, as well as 3 lenses and rails?

i would like to fit all this into a case that i can carry onto a plane. but i'm pretty sure that's not possible...

any ideas what size case i need?

i don't know about a case for all that, i'm sure there are padded bags though. Check out the OGIO Ty 2 camera backpack. I fit all of my HMC150 gear + manuals and still have room for stuff.

You have to be more specific about what rails you have. There's a huge difference in size 12", 18", and 24" rails.

I'm pretty sure you won't be able to have all those things as a carry-on since the limitations of carry-on is 22" x 14" x 9" bag.

I have the 1610 and I'm able to fit HMC150, Redrock Mattebox, 10.6" Samsung Monitor, Brevis Adapter, a couple of lenses, 12" Support Rail System, and extra batteries. This is definitely not a carry-on though.

Do not get the foam Pick and Pluck. They are a headache. You're better off getting the Velco Padding for whichever Pelican case you're going to buy. They are easier to deal with and you can change their configuration when you decide to move around equipment. It is worth the money.

i am really interested in the 1610, although i'm a little afraid that i may need the 1650. i would rather have the 1610 because it is 10 lbs lighter. my rails are 12", and i also need to fit 3 lenses and the audio technica 897 as well. do you think all of this will fit?

could you post a picture of your case and setup? that would help me get a better visualization of it

don't think a pelican would work. I know that my backpack from lowepro has enough room and so does my Kata Pull cart case. both also are small enough to work on the airplane thing..

My Velco Padding Dividers will arrive in the mail Wednesday of next week. Once I set it up, I'll take a photo of it and post it.

I got to pelicans the carry on version for the camera and i think the 1610 for the audio gear. Did the foam option, it was a pain to set up, but everything is so secure in there I feel like I could throw the case off the back of a truck and it would be fine.

Ok, So here's my Pelican 1610 case that I use to carry my stuff in.

Contents:

HMC 150
Tekkeon Battery
Redrock Mattebox/flags/donuts
28mm, 50mm, 85mm, 135mm lenses
10.6" HD monitor
Noga Arm
Battery/Adapter
Brevis 35mm Adapter
Brevis battery Adapter
ND filter
Allen Wrench (Hex Key)
Zoom H4
Rode NG1 Shotgun Mic
Cables

Things I haven't put in there that I know will still fit:

Wireless Lav
Extra Batteries
Pens
Pencils
Notepad
Business Cards
Hard drive

Things that I didn't fit in it:

24" rails
Mounts/Handles/Shoulder Pads
Tripod
Laptop

I had the foam before and hated it. It's a pain. At least with the Velcro Padding I'm able to change my configuration.

The whole thing is at LEAST 40lbs. Probably closer to 45 lbs. I didn't put it on a scale, but I've carried my fair share of 50lbs rice bags and gone to the gym enough times to make a fair judgment. Definitely not for plane carry-on items. And I think most airlines have a 50lbs limit before they charge you extra.

Is the 1610 carry-on legal?

EDIT: No it isn't but the 1510 is "FAA maximum carry on size" ...
