New Web Series: The Dancing Bunnies

I really like what you did here, but it was hard for me to pay attention through much of the dialogue, because there's a very attractive man sitting at the bar behind the action. He was very distracting as an extra. Don't use him again.

Doug glad you've returned safely from AFRICA. You must have taken a ton of drugs over there because not only was that distracting man YOU, but you also produced this movie. Maybe it's time for you to take a break from CINE-BINGO.

Thanks KIRK.

Santa Barbara Int. Film Festival went great. We screened twice and there was lots of great reactions and compliments. (But of course nobody ever talks S to your face). Lots of stars walking around, good atmosphere, beautiful women. The HVX200 with the M2 looked great compared to the 35mm shorts.

Met a lot of really cool and talented filmmakers that were from all over the world. Italy, England, France, New York... and all the movies were top quality. The festival treated us like Kings even though we only had short film there. Free hotel rooms, food, filmmaker pass that got us into everything FREE and never had to wait in line. Amazing after parties and after-after parties. Best festival I've ever been to.

Episode 2 thru 17 is coming.

That is fabulous news. I'm really impressed. But the first episode you screened for us here looked great -- everybody said so -- I'm not surprised. I think you will succeed very well with this series. It really has potential for bigger and better exposure than just the Internet. However, I'm also glad that you decided to promote it as an Internet series. I'm very curious about this approach. It will be just great if you will find out this is a good way to initiate a movie's release.

Again, very impressive results and glad to hear you enjoyed the festival in Santa Barbara. Congratulations!

Thanks Ryan. Appreciate it.

Yo Vic... For me it all really comes down to getting as many people as I can to watch the series. I don't think there has been a Web Series yet that people can honestly say is comparable to something they'd watch on TV. I think most of it is pretty mediocre. Not saying mine will be any better, but the playing field is weak.

After watching a few guys on here get jerked around by various distribution companies... and having been a part of a distribution company that really looked at filmmakers as suckers who had no choice but to attempt to recoup some of their money... I'm gonna do something slightly different.

Hey, WOW! Great job! It looks great! I can't wait until I get to see the other episodes! Do you have an estimated time on when they'll be out?

That's how it works unfortunately. The distributors see themselves as the owners of the films they pick up for distribution. The contracts say so, and there is no getting around that; that's the distribution contract form.

So the only way for a filmmaker to recover his/her money is to lie about the budget and hope the distributor falls for it. Originating on digital helps.

A digital movie can be shot for nothing -- initially. A producer has something to show. If no distributor bites, the movie can be shelved or sold for peanuts. With film, there is about $25 k to $50 k in film and lab costs, so the filmmaker has to go with a distributor regardless of the outcome.

Self distribution is a big gamble. Some people know how to do it and some people are willing to do the work, like Darryl Robertson. The overwhelming majority of filmmakers lose their shirt. The majors have a lock on theatrical distribution, and DVD sales are pathetic without a multi-million dollar campaign.

So what you're doing holds a lot of promise in a world that increasingly looks like entertainment is going to be served up on the Internet.

And therefore the leveling of the playing field. Again, good luck. I for one am rooting for you.

DAVID -- We start rehearsing next week and we begin shooting in MARCH. Because I wrote it as a feature I'm hoping to have a screening of the entire project (all 17 episodes) sometime in JULY. It will be a big FREE screening somewhere in LA.

And the first three episodes will be released at the same time at the end of JULY, with one of the 17 episodes being released each week. It should take about 4 months to release all the episodes.

Casting has been interesting. I got some really talented people to be in the project. Some really beautiful women too. This thing's gonna be stacked with beautiful women.

Here's some VERLAINE THE SERIES test footage we shot with the new Redrock Encore. Brian Valente was nice enough to let me get my hands on it for the weekend.

Normally we would have more shots to work with for this scene but because we only had 3 hours to shoot it, we could only do a few takes of each setup. So there were some mistakes made like not being able to break up the white walls in the background. But we ran out of time to do that. I was lazy with the editing, the music isn't right and the sound hasn't been tweaked. Normally I'd get these things perfect, but this is a picture test and those things don't really matter right now.

When we actually shoot the scene the forklift will be moving and people will me walking through the warehouse so it looks more real.
