First I would just like to tell you what I do in this production and some other details.

I literally do everything for this movie.

First off, I've wrote and I am directing this movie all by me self with no input from others. (When I say that, I HAVE had input but I've never used the idea's given or suggested to me. I want it my way or not at all).

I'm also the lead DP. I take control of the primary camera work most of the time and when I can't it's my good friend (who's also a photographer) Ally does all the camera work for me. I have scouted all locations and I have brought in the cast (mostly friends, friends of friends, college actors etc..). They are unpaid and working on favors and volunteer work.

I am not so sure about composing the music even though I am a musician. I do know a lot of people who do make music though and are willing to donate songs (with credit of course) to my film.

Effects, make-up (if any), set props and set-ups, food, scheduling, producing and everything else you'd hire seperate indeviduals for is done by me.

All equipment is mine and/or borrowed, donated or otherwise.

Now that I've cleared that out of the way... I want to tell you about about the whole idea.

Well. After spending the latter half of 2008 until now messing with, trying, buying, selling and buying camera's again I've finally decided I know what I need to know for shooting it the way >>I<< want it done.

I am not using the sexiest camera on earth and I am far from using any sort of special lenses and suchlike but I have found ways to seamlessly compensate in post for other things.

I've shot some very basic, very home-made shorts in the past and I'm just getting sick of all the stuff inbetween "starting out" and "making a film" and after reading about many peoples heartwarming stories if giving it their all to make their dream movie with no budget or help from others I've decided I am going to jump in the deep end with my swimming gear off.

The reason I feel comfortable with doing a feature right away is for a few reasons.
1. I've always been very productive. Even though I am VERY lazy I always manage to pull off exactly what I want without doing much.

2. I am very impatient and I want things to fast. This is no different. I want to get in there amongst the dirt and throw down my two cents.

3. I'm very optimistic and when I want something I can be motivated to get it to no end. I believe that if blowing half a year on a film that ends up a flop then at least I done it my way and I can say I have the experience for the next film I make. And I will make other films regardless of how successful this is.

4. The feature's story is primarily based in one location with less then 5 or 6 other locations in the film so I literally have "a lot within nothing" to work with. Meaning the one location will be an endless, re-usable area and I won't need to worry to much about people bailing out and cancelling on locations.

With that said.. I'm going to use this place (like others) to tell you my daily to weekly grievances with being a feature-film-virgin and jumping right into the game with no proper experience or budget.

The most my money is going towards is food, transport and other small otherwise insignificant things.

Hopefully you guys will enjoy it and being to look foward to this production which I have planned for an April - June release.

My next post here will I will give you more details on the story, probably in a brief synopsis style and some other details.

Please feel free to ask questions, make suggestions and what not!
I know the critics of this board can be tough but I'm taking it all in my stride. I have a vision, I don't want a plastered down end product. I want it how I see it in my brains film reels. :P

Well, if you've done shorts then you have experience.
I am going to jump in the deep end with my swimming gear off.
what do you mean?

Do a very good shooting schedule so you won't end up taking too long doing this.

Break the script down. Learn how to do a strip board.

Keep posting details of your plans so people here with a lot of experience can help you with advice.

The expression just means "jumping in the deep end".. Starting a feature film with only very basic short (under 5 minutes each) film experience.

"with my swimming gear off" basically it's a big risk I'm taking (or somewhat) considering the territory.

I will, I want to document everything I do.. And on that note..

I finished an intro mock-up today so I can get in tone with the film. I've got half of the soundtrack complete - done by various volunteer and/or donating artists (who are all under creative commons, fair use and "by/with credit" terms).

Hopefully the theme I've got sticks around. I've still not got a good enough synopsis, let me sit on that for a while before I start saying things that might not be true.

Will post the mock-intro video. (I like to jump into editing mode while I film.. so I get all my credits and suchlike worked in way before we have the final batch of footage from the shoots.
I have a weird work process and I can't break it or I'll get uncomfortable.

It's day two on the official "pre-production" of Medium.

We've got all the locations planned, we have our actors locked but the script needs finishing and polishing up.

To keep in tone with my "Do it cheap, Do it free or don't do it at all" I build my own shoulder harness from an Old tripod that I tore the legs off of, made into a Monopod for a while and now it's my shoulder rig. Works like a charm.

I'll get you pictures of it with the camera soon.
