Tote Vision 7" TFT LCD 703HD Monitor- $490 w/ mount!

how good is this for critical focus? i read a B&H review said it wasn't good, was wondering what you thought. Is this mainly for framing, etc.

Also, does this have the Red/Yellow/White composite input plugs? Wondering, for my SD cameras like for the DVX.

Thanks,

JM

Oh sorry guys for not replying earlier! I guess I forgot to subscribe and I just checked.

Yes, it is the 703HD. They write LCD-703 on the monitor itself but it's full model # is LCD-703HD Series High Definition 7.0' TFT LCD Monitor.

This is the only monitor I tried, and didn't want to spend way over $1000, so I don't know how it compares to a Marshal or Panasonic (which I'm sure are better). That said, this monitor beats the socks off the HVX's LCD display. Its way better for focusing and viewing than that!

Inputs:
Composite Video Pal/NTSC with BNC loop output
S-Video IN/OUTPUT
DVI Input
RS-232 and Tally Input
HD/SD Component YPrPb with BNC loop out

For the question about the Red/White/Yellow cable. Red and White are for audio so you would use the Yellow only and hook a BNC connector to it, or better yet, use an S-Video cable (which I will throw in) to hook your DVX or any other camera to it.

Hope this all helps!

P.S. I also have an Noga arm type thing for it. Its not Noga-brand but I forget the brand. It has a ball/socket design and clamps to anything like a tripod or whatever. I bought it used off of a DVXuser for about $75. I'll throw that in for just $20 to anyone who takes the monitor.

Just to give this great monitor a bumb, still can´t believe why the Totevision is that much overlooked.
Compared it to the Marshall on a shot, director, 2nd cameraman, gaffer and myself all prefered the Totevision.
But the Marshall is way more rugged, to be fair! Beware that the ToVi´s BNC connectors are NOT fixed to the housing...
But at this pricetag, it´s a nobrainer!

Thing I would miss in this offering though, is a battery...

thanks. yes, it is a good monitor, but like I said, I'd never compared it to the more expensive version, so i'm glad that this one holds up (if not surpasses) those.

As for wishing I was throwing in a battery, I think the best way to power these things is with a battery adapter from Vidled and use your own DVX or HVX (or another camera's) battery. It is really handy. They are $30 here: http://vidled.com/products.html . I actually have one that I was just going to hold onto, but throw it in for $15 to anyone buying the monitor.

One more note, as for the for someone using any monitor like this you have make sure you have the OUT on your camera (in my case the composite out on my HVX) set properly. If you want HD you have to switch it from SD to HD. At first I had it set wrong, and would not have been happy with the picture (for critical focus, etc) if I had not figured I had to change that. There are no lines in the image and it is a clear picture.

Cheers everyone!

I no longer have my Vidled Adapter (available at Vidled for $30). Monitor is available for $490 and noga-arm thingy for $20 if you buy the monitor. keep in mind, already throwing in camera mount for free.
