Upgrade EX1 firmware to 1.11

I've video'd an EX1 being upgraded and hopefully will have a video tutorial up to show people how this is done. Its not rocket science but it can be a bit daunting for some.

Menu+Select+Cancel then browse down to the bottom menu (IF) and read the firmware on the right next to VERSION. Then turn the camera off to disable the maintenence menu again.

Okay, I'm finally have a chance to test using the KxS and sad to say, but it's not working. I've updated to version 1.11 but I still received the same error as when it's not updated. Any suggestion? Please help.

you either have a faulty Kensington adaptor or a faulty (or fake) Sandisk Ultra II card. The only other option is you think you have 1.11 but don't.

The Kinsington adapter works fine when I inserted into my laptop as well as the Sandisk Ultra II card. I double checked the firmware an it did say V1.11_0531 serial#: 0100738.

You only have the one adaptor and card?
The three things I mentioned are about the only possibilities, its working for everyone else just fine so somthing must be malfunctioning.

Do you get 'invalid media' when you insert the combo or it won't format properly?

Run that benchmark on the combo in your laptop and make sure you get similar figures.

I've just order another adapter but they've made a mistake on the item so it's not here yet. I do have two Sandisk card though. Either one is not working. It is as if the firmware version is no updated yet. That's the message I got when I insert the adapter plus the card in. It is the exact screen you showed on your video tutorial when you have not updated your firmware.

How do I go about benchmark this in my laptop?

Any other suggestion? It's quite disappointing if it's not working at last. It's weird that although the firmware has been updated, the camera acts as if the firmware is not. Is/are there other verification that the firmware is actually updated besides looking at the version number? I remember someone mentioned that with the updated firmware, there are a couple of new features in the new firmware. Perhaps I can verify if that's the case.

3 new features i noticed after my update were:

1. if your Video Format is set to a 24P mode then under the Video Set menu at the bottom there is something new called 24P System: 60i or 24 PsF.

2. i believe this to be a new feature. In the Others Menu under Clip, you can now manually change the beginning clip name/number in Number Set.

3. hook up your camera via the HD/SDI port up to a studio/HD monitor. if your Video Format is set to HQ 1080P your monitor should confirm that it is actually 1080P and not 1080i. i believe it also should be 4:2:2 out of that port.

hope this helps.

I read that there were also changes to the audio menu.

Can anyone explain in detail what those changes are, I think, to the attenuators?

Will someone also explain to me what GuyB said regarding "benchmark" the adapter plus the card in my laptop?

So far everything looks right. The firmware upgrade does show those new features. I'm still very disappointed that my adapter plus card does not work. I'm waiting for my next adapter and see if the shows any signs of life with my EX1.

Okay, I've downloaded the CrystalCPUID PUre x64 Edition 4.15.2451 but, how do I test the speed of the card and the adapter? I don't see a button or any information about testing a removable disk. Help?

Okay, please tell me if I did test incorrectly. Here's the results for my Sandisk Ultra II 16GB with my Kensington 7-1 reader adapter.

And here's the 8GB SxS card result:

Everything else in my EX1 camera seems to be updated fine except I still can't use the KxS adapter + card combination. Any other suggestion where I might look?

Honestly I can't see why it isn't working for you, all I can say is there is most likely something wrong with your adaptor or SD card that doesn't prevent it from working on a computer but is causing you EX compatibility problems. This is assuming you have checked in the mantainance menu and do see 1.11 firmware.

All I can suggest is you perhaps try a MxR adaptor and source an Ultra II from a full retail merchant like what BestBuys was or something (Walmart?) Not sure who is the best but not just someone from a corner shop or Amazon. I can sell you a pretested combo of Kensington and Ultra II (tested in my EX1) if you are interested but I am charging a premium as I only have 6 Kensingtons left now and they are my last.

PS: Who updated your firmware? You? Sony Service? or did it come with it out of the box?
