Interesting article about a Hollwood Director,"Independent" film,& first time writer

Not the biggest fan of the Fuqua. Don't think he's terrible, just not all that great. Training Day has good performances and a great setup, but the film never achieved liftoff for me...25 million for an independent film? Technically, if he's getting his own, non-studio funding, then yeah, he's independent, but by the same yardstick, so is George Lucas. I'm sure the guy who had to scrape together his film with lint appreciates screening his movie next to Fuqua's "little indie".

25 mill for an indie - yeah right. I agree with you Batutta that's like saying Lucas is an indie. Just because someone is technically outside the system, doesn't mean they're working hard to find money and scrape by. I mean I could make 100 movies with 25 million, 5 good movies with great casts. I'm hoping he's really saying the movie cost $10 million and we're using $15 mill for marketing.

Fuqua is a capable director in my opinion. Not terrible, Not Great as B said. I thought The King Arthur with Clive Owen was really good. I know I will take a hit for this one, but I actually Liked "Bait" and own it on DVD. (sorry)

From the reviews at Sundance they say that this is his best film.

I like the fact that MTA employee that had never written before gets his script made into a movie.

Fuqua is a good director to me too. I'm 100% against you on King Arthur though. Sorry I wasn't a fan. It had so much potential, but let me down in so many ways. I've never seen "Bait" though - so can't comment on that one.
