Some of my C4D work...

So I just got Mograph and naturally I wanted to integrate it into a matchmove :). I know the cubes don't look so hot as I didn't spend but minutes on them but man mograph is sweet! I also tried something pretty cool for me at least. I shot this footage purposely blowing out the sky which tends to happen a lot with video but I thought I would try and replace the sky with a C4D Advanced Render Sky. Since I had the shot matchmoved I was able to render a 'sky pass' then made a matte in AE and replaced the sky.

Anyhow here is the After/Before video. Also made the birds in AE.

Hey oneinfinite those examples were well done. As I said I just got mograph so I'm still my wrapping my head around it but man it sure seems priceless!

Your clips were great would love to see more.

Thanks, I can't show my current project until it airs, but it's not as complex as the others. Just some tiles flipping with images on either side. Here are some links to learn a bit more about mograph (a few have other C4D tut's as well)

http://www.hypa.tv/tims/download.html - A lot of TP stuff, but some good mograph examples, especially the one on Animation Offset, which is how I got the leaves to grow the way they did.

http://www.c4dcafe.com/reviews/Mograph/ - This is a good overview of the Mograph module and explanations on each piece

http://leaders.creativecow.net/leaders/mylenium/ - Although I don't like the Cow, Mylenium has a great series of tutorials on Mograph. The iPod commercial one is cool because it shows you some of the potential of the Tracer object, something I wasn't too familiar with before I watched that one.

Not a whole lot out there, but some good things to get you started.

Thought I would post this in my C4D thread since it relates.

Here is a link to my 12-video class I taught at Cineversity. My name is Josh Johnson.

That's cool. I need to get a membership there. How did it come about that you ended up doing tutorials there?

Thanks oneinfiniteloop.

The US CEO of Maxon sent me a email one day after seeing examples of my work online and he found out that I did some matchmoving on a hollywood feature film. Then asked me if I could break down a video I made for a class. I said sure :). I got paid nicely!

Strange thing I didn't contact anyone they contacted me same with the feature film job studio contacted me pretty much after seeing my work on forums :). I'm stuck in Missouri currently so I'm trying to get out to LA where I can get more work.

Thanks oneinfiniteloop I agree the internet certainly changes so many things especially job searching!

Those cow mograph tuts are good watching one now!

Well I'm currently trying to learn the node compositing program Fusion. In Fusion I replaced the sky with a picture then animated the picture to make it look like the sky was moving. I added the digital and static coke signs. Also did some initial color correction work.

You might be wondering what I used SyntEyes for since the shot was locked off (on tripod not moving). I used SynthEyes to 'align' my camera. Basically in SynthEyes you can even find your cameras position, Focal Length and Field of View on a still picture or locked off camera similar to that Photomatch plugin for C4D.

After that I imported that camera into Cinema 4D where I added a cg building, logo, and animated flag.

Finally I did some compositing in After Effects. I added a Stylistic digital lens flare to mimic the sun and gave it my final color treatment.

'Smoke Wars'

Well I'm kind of tired of always using AE for my particle effects so I figured I would finally set down and learn the TP presets and how to use them. They are pretty cool and easy to use but I still find it a bit sad I have to rely on the presets for my particle effects because TP is unnecessarily difficult to set up. Since we are stuck with the outdated TP and Pryo I minds as well learn how to get the best out of them...

You can see I'm not to happy with current particle effects in C4D and hope they adopt some things from Max like Particle flow etc

Sorry for the rant here is a test I made with TP and Pryo. It certainly isn't stunning but it turned out nicer than I imagined.

Hey Josh, I don't think TP is that difficult to wrangle once you get the hang of it. Now, I've rarely worked with other particle systems, but I figured it out with some minimal messing about. The Quickstart guide helped me a lot as well as these links below. Maybe we should start a C4D TP thread?

http://www.adamswaab.com/tutorials/thinking_particles/ - This is small series that Adam Swaab (freelance now, but worked at Blur as a CG/VFX Supervisor) does. His are good because he explains the 'why' as well as the 'how'. Really gives you a strong understanding of things. He only has a few tutorials up, but they're worth their weight in gold.

http://www.hypa.tv/tims/download.html - Tim Clapham from Hypa has some example scenefiles of various TP experiments. Really great tool when you get in there and break them down. I learned how to do fish schooling/flocking from his scenefiles.

http://bonkers.de/tp/tp.html - Bjorn Marl's site (Srek on the forums). Great info and examples. This guy really knows his stuff when it comes to TP

Just a quick post to keep encouraging you in your work Josh and public posting - as this is really interesting and inspiriing for c4d gimps like me trying to learn this stuff ;)

Thank a lot oneinfinite for those links! I will study up.

Yeah a C4D TP thread would be awesome :). I will start one later if you don't.

Thanks lawrie! I'm quite the modeling/texture C4D gimp at the moment :). Just haven't used it a whole lot for modeling. You are becoming quite the modeler yourself. Thanks for the kind words.

I was trying to figure out a way to render a cinema 4d sky as a HDR spherical map to use in AE with the plugin trapcode particular. I somewhat think I figured it out. This was my first test so its not perfect but will improve in future tests.

Here is a video of my final animation. Sky rendered in C4D as HDR Tiff then brought into PS where I turned it into a pseudo HDR spherical map. I animated the camera in AE as well.

I made all the particle effects in AE with Particular. I can see some pretty cool possibilities with this technique especially when combined with Trapcode Horizon.
