The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

So after thinking this film over a bit, I wanted some opinons...

Minor Spoilers ahead:

Ok, was I missing something or was the whole modern day portion in the hospital completely worthless? Sure, there was the daughter character, but we would have figured out her arch through the actual storyline, as it got explained that he left so she could have a normal father anyway. I dunno, to me they could have cut all that out, lost about, what? 40 minutes? And the film still would have been just fine. I dunno, maybe I was missing some huge thematic element or something, but personally it seemed a bit superfolous.

well from what I saw in a interview, fincher changed that from the screenplay, among many other things, the original screenplay had daisy dying on the home where benajamin lived all his life, you know the old peoples home, there is a long interview of brad pit and fincher that explains all this...here it is

That was my biggest gripe with the film. It should have all been left out,. Totally unaffecting and generic, imo. The film should have started with the birth scene. Maybe it was one of those things that worked on paper, but it added nothing to the film except redundancy.

what would be his best perfomance to you.

I like BP alot of people dont give him credit enough sometimes. I will say his work is strongest with fincher.

Best... Snatch or Fight Club

Special Mention... A River Runs Through It and Se7en

Funniest... True Romance.

Fantastic film.

Kate Blanchett was just amazing. I work with actors a lot and I just can't fathom how you can get that good.

Pitt was good as well. He pulled it off and made me belive the story.

It just worked for me. Everything just worked.

I was a little dissappointed in it as I expected so much.

Cate Blanchet was absolutely great and Brad was very good and the film was well made and admirable in all respects.

But to me the sum of those parts did not equal a great movie. Just a good one.

has any one brought up the alarming similarities between Ben Button and Forrest Gump? because they should have. Theyre basically the same movie, with some details moved around and changed.

Just saw Button I liked it but I agree the hospital scenes could have been cut. i believe the film would have been a little bit better if it was 30 mins shorter. Brad P and Kate B did a great job in the film and as a Forrest Gump lover I do not see the similarities at all.

Just saw the movie. Its the first time I check this thread since the movie has been released, and I must say it did remind me of Forrest Gump. It is, however, trying to achieve something else, to talk about different topics.

Its a good film. It will probably win best cinematography ( was that freakin HD!?), but not best film material. It is a movie that tries too hard to say many things. It succeeds, somehow, to make you "feel" some of these things, but lacks that " magic" . This is a fairy tale that tries to show america's growth on the XX and beginning of the XXI century. But as much as it tries to achieve (and it does in many levels- cinematography, sound, acting), it just fails to give us that "Fairy Tale Magic". As real and as deep as the topics focused in the movie are (death, love, destiny, History, national traumas/ collective memories), in order for it to be effective, it needs to be "Magical" . Forrest Gump was magical, Gone with the Wind was magical, Australia tries too hard to be magical- and so does Benjamin Button.

First, this movie SHAMELESSLY copied Forrest Gump. The two films share too many structural details, plot details, visual motifs and supporting characters for me to recount them all, but the similarities are not subtle, and if you can't see them you haven't watched either film very closely. Despite that, I still actually liked the movie. Sometimes a film hits you at just the right phase of your life, and this one did for me. A lot of the themes Button dealt with spoke to me deeply. The film engaged me emotionally and I can't discount any film that does that. Also, I saw it projected digitally and the digital cinematography was gorgeous, as good as anything that has ever been shot on film. And the special effects work was nearly flawless. I only thought the de-aged Cate Blanchett looked a little porcelain doll-ish and fake at times. When she played her regular age though she looked as good as I've ever seen her. She looks fine as a redhead. Anyway, I don't regret seeing this. Good film.

I liked this movie! I thought it was a tad bit too long, but overall it was good. As for the comparison to Forrest Gump. I don't think the plot was like it at all, but for some reason it reminded me of it...weird...
