Galactica vs. the Enterprise

It's not the ship, but who commands it, which begs the challenge--

Adama vs. Kirk

I'd go with Kirk. He'd bed all the female cylons without breaking a sweat and they'd all gang up on Galactica.

I never understood the Star Trek vs Star Wars thing. They are totally different animals to me. Comparing BSG and Star Trek is more valid to me, as they are closer in genre, one seeming like the flipside of the other.

Good one Batutta. I wouldn't underestimate Adama though, he's a tough bastard. That's why I mentioned if the Galactica got the element of surprise then who knows. For example: the raid on New Caprica and the jump in the atmosphere. Adama has some skills too, and they both have some tricks up their sleeves.

How about Adama commanding a Star Fleet vessel? Or Kirk commanding a battlestar?

Me neither.

But it gives people something to argue about.

Some people will argue about anything. I just posted this for fun. I hope this thread doesn't turn into a "this one is better, go suck a lemon" thread war.

That doesn't sound right. How about Battlestar Galactica vs the Empire? Or even the Rebel Alliance for that matter.

Star Trek is better, go suck a lemon--ERRRRRRRR, I mean, um....

The problem with any of these sorts of comparisons is that the technology, typically, is completely incompatible and usually totally favors one side. Any real Enterprise (which means any of them other than the alleged NX-01) would tear through Ron Moore's Galactica like a hot knife through butter and take nary a scratch in return--the Trek technology is just too superior. The original Galactica might last a couple of minutes longer, because I think the original series gave the Colonials a higher level of technology, but without shields, neither really stands a chance. (BTW, this is one of the few things I've ever said about the new BSG that shouldn't be read as an insult. :D Any sci-fi universe that doesn't include shields, such as Babylon 5 just to name one of my favorites, would have the same problem.)

Similarly, in the Trek vs. Wars scenario, I've never understood how anybody thinks that anything from the Trek universe could go up against the horribly overweaponed superships that populate Star Wars. :) An Imperial Star Destroyer is more than twice the length of the Enterprise-D or -E, has so much more usable space inside that I can't even begin to calculate it, and has roughly 25 times the crew. Given that they both have shields, the sheer firepower of the ISD tilts the balance entirely in its favor.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get to my 12-step program.

[faintly, as if a phone has been put down and you're hearing someone from another room]Hi, I'm Captain Pierce, and I'm a total sci-fi nerd...

Although I love BSG, and although it has a captain that probably eats scrap metal for breakfast, and although it has nukes and thousands of cannons, tough armor that can withstand nuclear attacks, and vipers for support... I gotta give this one to Star Trek.

It all depends on what the Star Trek Shield can take. I think only energy weapons can destroy it. So what would nuclear weapons do to it? Also I doubt the BSG armor takes energy weapons into account. Like someone mentioned, seems like it would be like a hot knife through butter.

Captain pierce, you're right, but there are some overly powerful ships in Star Trek as well. Borg for example? But a borg cube would fall to the death star. Nothing can destroy the death star... well except for a tiny x-wing... and maybe a slightly bigger millenium falcon. But nothing else!

That's what I'm saying too, Trek tech is much more advanced, although if you look at both shows that is the whole point. BSG (Ron Moore's) is supposed to be rough and tumble and relatable to us living in the current day and age. So that means no Trek level technology would really fit in. It is more akin to the marines from Aliens and their ship the Sulaco than anything Trek or Star Wars had. That's why I posted this, for fun, but also because the original article's logic didn't really work for me.

So Captain Pierce, I'm getting that you don't like Ron Moore's Galactica. Are you a fan of the original BSG? I've only seen a little of the originals, so I've just rented some episodes form the library since they have the entire series.

As for being a sci-fi nerd, I'm guilty as charged.

I vote on the Enterprise. You just can't destroy that thing. You take down the shield and Jordy reroutes power and they're back up again. They can hit you with Photons, Phazer and every bloody thing. The Borg find some interesting ways to hurt the Enterprise but I've seen no one really take the thing out. (Then again I haven't seen every ep). I haven't seen a lot of the new BSG either but that's my take on it.
