What format I should choose from New Project dialogue box

Dear All,
I am from a PAL world and shoot at 1080/25p by HVX, and I am planning to do the editing with my Xpress Pro HD 5.2.4, but I found that it had many different formats for me to choose when I opened a new project.
As I shoot at 1080/25p, should I choose 1080p/25 or 1080i/50?
Also, say if I should 720/25pn, what format I should choose? I realized that for 720 it had 23.976, 29.97 HDV and 59.94 only, nothing 25 or 50. Am I missing some upgrade?
Thank you very much.

I see, but doesn't HVX have only 1080i? I am a little bit confused now.
Thanks a lot.

Thanks, MichaelP. But I doubt if I should choose 1080p/25 because I got the following message whenever I put a clip in the timeline or even just play it in the source window, "Warning: Mixing interlaced source clips in a progressive project can lead to problems with scrolling titles, digital cut and video export. You should transcode this clip to the current project format before using it."
I am very sure that I am shooting 1080/25P, for when I switch the HVX200 to MCR mode and select those clips, the bottom of the screen does say 1080/25P.
However, the strange thing is that in my computer's P2 viewer, the metadata says another thing: the frame rate is 50i, and the Pulldown is 2:2.
I remember that I read something about the Panasonic HVX is somewhat 1080i......
Am I really shooting 25P? Why does Xpress Pro say that I am shooting interlaced clips? Anyone can help?
Thanks.

Now, I open another new project and choose the format as 1080/50i. Then I don't have the warning message.

The answers on the Avid forum are correct: 1080/25p is pretty new, and therefore not recognised as a valid DVCproHD signal when carried over a firewire-connection to a DVCproHD deck( at the time, they only thought of implementing 720p/50 or 1080i/50 over firewire in the original specs.

Your project should be 1080i/50 if you plan to output to a DVCproHD tapedeck.

There is no difference in treating the 1080p/25 HVX signal as 25p or 50i. In the bitstream, the HVX-200 1080p/25 signal is flagged as being i50 to remain compatible with the original DVCproHD decks

There is also no quality difference whatsoever in treating your source 25p material as 25p or 50i: The image is made progressivly and stored progressivly. To become a bit technical: the image is output interlaced, but because the 2 fields were recorded at the same moment in time, there are no interlace timeshifts artifacts. The outputted image is progressive.

To make it simple: we're shooting 1080p25, and editing in a 1080i50 project.

You can choose whichever you like, but if you go for 1080i50 you don't get annoying warnings, and you remain complaint to the original DVCproHD specs.

Thanks, eLeventy. It is again another clear explanation from you.

I think another reason for choosing 1080i50 is keep the native format because in the case of 1080/25p, Avid will need me to transcode all the clips, then all will have DNxHD codec. Am I correct about this point?

When you talk about "output image is progressive," do I need to set anything in order to have a progressive look?

Actually, I have another question about how to "move" the final MXF file back to P2 card, so that I can will it in HD resolution on my projector. Is it possible? In another forum, the experts told me that people always use WMV format to show HD material. But anyway, I would prefer using P2 format to project to my clients if I can.

Thank you very much.

I don't think it's necessary to transcode to an Avid codec. Should work fine as it is in 25p

If an image is progressive( like when you record at 1080/25P), it will always be progressive, no matter if you treat it as interlaced. Which is good. An image which is recorded interlaced, can be turned into progressive, but with limited results.

As always, progressive is good, interlaced is bad...

For moving an edited piece back to a P2 card, see answer in the other forum. If you do use your HVX to show footage, you are limited to the size of your P2 card( or firestore), and you tie up your camera. You can also transcode to a WMV, but also an MPEG-2 or even MPEG-4 format, and use a laptop for playback. Connect your laptop over DVI to your projector.
