another FRIGGIN movie trailer---it's cool I swear.

I love the look of stock lens when scenes are lighted well and framing is done with perfect composition. It is something about the sharpness and color. Blurry background? Who cares. Your stuff proves how professionals are able to get the best out of stock lens without going thru all the crazyness and softness of adapters. Fantastic work.

Thanks everyone. I shot with the stock lens & color corrected using FCP's 3 way corrector and Magic Bullet. As far as settings are concerned the only one's I typically mess with are in regards to Barry Green's recommendations on reducing noise. I hate noise.

Gorgeous. Better looking (and acted) than most of the everyone knows each other in the last minute of the picture pictures. I hope this isn't one of those, because I loathe the format completely.

With that happey caveat, with the performances and your expert cinematography, I can't believe the writers won't find a place for it.

It is amazing what someone with an eye for composition can do with a stock HVX. No trickery required.

Erik, it totally is that "everyone's connected", "CRASH" style kind of pic. :) I know. It's a kind of a tired formula.

I've seen a few that were good, but it really is such an LA-indie-but-not-really-indie formula to work to. There were some people who pulled it off - Altman should be credited for "inventing" the sorry format really.

It doesn't change the fact that you've done great credit to the words you were given by the authors.

It would be a bit sad to see this recast when an "independent" studio gets their hands on it and decides to put A and B listers in place of the talent you found. Just based on what you've shown, it looks like one of those occassions where using lesser-known talent frees the film from the weight that sometimes accompanies bigger stars.

Again, just terrific work. We should put the term "stock+hvx" in this thread a dozen or so times so people who are on the fence over DOF adapters can quickly search for what the camera can do on its own.

I too am extremely interested in your general settings. I have been tweaking with the low noise setting on my HVX200 and I haven't had ANY luck with getting beautiful footage like yours. Any help and insight into the settings would be appreciated.

mb72378,
Barry Green recommends shooting in Cinelike V to reduce noise, so I do. Otherwise, I don't mess to much. These cameras respond to light. I try to make sure, that even if it's moody, that there is still areas of brighter light, if for no other reason that exciting the chip in the camera to reduce the noise. The imagery I like the best is when you have areas of extreme light and dark anyway. I like contrast. Flat over-lit images just don't do anything for me. If I want a bluer look to the scene, I'll mess with color temp or I wont white balance. Then I'll crunch the blacks in post and play with Magic Bullet.

Thanks for watching.
