Can anyone donate an Hi/8mm Camera?

This is a long shot, but here goes:

Hey guys, I'm starting a project for a film that is shot entirely in Hi8/8mm and believe me, there is no budget what so ever. The most I'll be paying for is what I eat on the days of filming, if even.

I'm wondering if anyone could donate an old 8mm cam. Doesn't matter if it's old and worn and tattered, as long as it records footage and audio we don't mind.

I would buy one and I know they are mega cheap but I simply don't have the cash to spend at all.
I'm in the West of Scotland, UK.

Thanks.

Hi8? Hmm- that would be kind of a nightmare for you to edit as you'd need more gear just to capture and digitize it. I'd at least ask for an old DV camera. Or better yet- get a credit card, buy one at a Best Buy, treat it carefully, shooting for less than a month and return it. Cost ya nothing at the end of the day. Well almost nothing, you still need tapes. Then again might be a good time to look for a higher paying job too...

I have the hardware to digitize it anyway but I really am aiming for an older 8mm anyway to give a really old feel without doing much in post.
DV is another option but 1. They're still quite popular so I'd guess most people want to keep them
and 2. I do want to keep a really 8mm quality feel to the video.

Thanks

LMAO that's great Noah. I bet with a bit of care, you could probably glue the tapes back into their wrappings too when you're done. Just don't forget to erase them first!

I have to mention; when people talk about getting that old 8mm look, I think they are talking about film... not video. I can't remember anything special about HI8 other than it was slightly better than VHS.

Well, I was considering getting a BIG BIG shoulder moutable Super-VHS camera.. but I wasn't sure if it was worth it.

When I look back at all the videos I used to make with friends, our skits and "short films".. I really love the way it feels and looks and I want to reproduce that for a short film years later.
