Help! FCE on MB or MBPro (amateur)

I have a DVX100B and in the past I've used Adobe Premiere Elements. I'm a amateur and will mostly shoot film shorts and upload them to Openfilm.com or Vimeo.com etc.

What system/software would you recommend. I'd like to try Apple FC Express but don't know which laptop to buy for my needs. Is a MacBook ok, or should I really try to afford a MacBook Pro?

Any recommendations are appreciated.

the new macbooks are actually pretty powerfull. i have a mbpro but its really up to you and what kind of stuff will you be doing with it.

I'll be shooting little episodes that my friends and I write/shoot and upload to the internet. Basic cuts and some minor effects, little to no animation. Eventually, I'd like to do some documentary shorts.

Thanks Stephen....guess I just have to bite the bullet and spend the money. That's the only hold up....just priced at 15" MB Pro .....it'll cost just about as much as my DVX!!!!

Oh well.....can't take it with me to the grave....might as well have fun now.(smile)

Ok, thanks, but I'd rather go with a certified refurb. sys from Apple.

Thanks even more for that tip. I just went back and looked at the new MBPs and they are all lacking FW400....how is that? How do they expect you to get footage from the DVX into the computer? CRAZY....not everyone is using a tapeless system. (I know you can buy a FW400 - FW800 cable, but does that work well?)

A crossover (400-800FW) cable should work fine, but having the ExpressCard slot is a deal breaker for me. I use the DuelAdapter and eSATA cards for storage in the field (and sometimes for editing).

As for software, you can "try" most programs to see what each one offers.
