i have had random problems occur with my 200 since i bought it.
i bought it from a panasonic dealer in vancouver, vidcom with a 1 year warranty.
should they give me my money back because im not satisfied?
or do they just get to repair it until the warranty ends and thats your lot?
how does it work with this pro gear?
i realise its not like the consumer stores where you can take anything back.
any feedback appreciated

What sort of random problems?

You are right that dealers are not like big retail stores that will take most things back, but with high end electronics unless something is really wrong with it even the retail electronic stores will not take something back without a restocking fee etc.

Under warranty, your camera should be fixed with no cost to you unless it's user error.

Best,
Andy

recently, my camera wouldnt turn off. it just went to blue screen, and i had to turn it off on the power bar. that seemed kind of serious to me but i dont know anything.
ive had problems with the files getting corrupted, the component out has a dodgy connection, and other little stuff. it just seems like every time i use it theres something new wrong with it. loosing footage and unreliability is so dissapointing, and not what i would expect for the 5G i payed for it. but im new. maybe this is normal.

I wonder if lemon laws would apply? I think that's only automobiles but yeah your camera should have been sent to Panasonic to get all these problems fixed.

You also didn't mention how long ago you bought it.
Usually if it's within a month or so my dealer would just replace it to keep me happy. Not that I've ever had to replace my 200's.
My dealer swapped my second HVX 200 for a 200A when it came out even though the window had passed. A good dealer is worth a lot.

If you've lived with it for several months you will likely just get a free repair.
I wish you the best.

thanks guys
ive had it 11 months and 10 ish days. my warranty runs out very soon.
i was gonna take it in next week.

should i just tell them i got a lemon and ask nicely for a replacement?
i never know how to deal with these people because i dont know where i stand

You can always ask, but the consumer has a responsability to deal with these things when they first happen.
I doubt they will just hand you a brand new camera in the 11th month if it has been a lemon from day one. Unless you have documented it i.e. been taking it to them for 10 months.
I do wish you the best. Let us know how it turns out. But I'd suspect you will only get it repaired at best.

thanks all
i have not actually asked for my money back.
they are sending it for repair right now, which they were fine about.
i explained that i thought it might be a lemon.
but im hoping with a complete check over in the repair centre, they should find any problems.
i didnt bring up asking for money back.
i dont have the documentation or clear evidence to have a leg to stand on, so i didnt push it as i dont want to get on their bad side.
its tricky with these things. i guess the trick is to get a clear understanding of the rules when you buy something, so you know what you have the right to ask for.
its nice to have you guys around.

Hey, I know vidcom really well and they seem to stand behind there stuff. They are also the panasonic pro shop in Vancouver so support from panasonic should be really good. As long as your claim is before the end of your coverage everything should be fixed. Also get everything in writing about what is wrong because even after the coverage is gone if a problem still isn't fixed it should be covered.

Hi Guys,

My opinion from many years in this industry-
I've found with equipment that has given problems with-in the warranty period or not, it's best to have it fixed and put up for sale/trade-in and get another unit or even another make, these days gear is not designed to last or be repaired, eg one problem fixed, yet another created.
Cut your losses/grief early, get on with the job, let the gear supplier/maker know of your disappointment in their product/service, get back to creating.

cheers

My HVX had an issue withe the lens housing about 3 months after I purchased it. I sent it in for repair and had it back in my arms within 5 business days including shipping to and from. Sense then I havent had any other issues (fingers crossed). I wouldn't say, in my opinion, if one thing goes wrong sell it, but def get it looked at ASAP. It wont fix itself with time. Experience with repairs are relative. Everyone gets dealt a different hand of cards.

I'll give you a dealer's perspective how this might be addressed.

If this was new camera, we'd probably DOA it and offer a new camera.

If you've had multiple, documented problems (emails, ph calls etc), ask your dealer to intercede on your behalf with Panasonic about a replacement given the problems and multiple service visits. Do not wait until the end of the warranty to ask for a replacement. Panasonic will allow the dealer to return the defective item for a new unit. The repaired unit gets sold at a discount as Bstock.

You could also contact your local Panasonic rep directly if you are good about doing this sort of thing.

If you paid my credit card, check to see if the credit card company offers any additional warranty coverage for your camera.

Hello Terry,

That is exactly what a dealer did for me some years ago when I purchased one of the first Pana DVD standalone recorders ($2100).
I had major burning issues in the first two weeks, they just swapped it for a new replacement unit, I bought many products over many years from them after that.(they got sold years later)
Only wish you were in my backyard.

Cheers

The AG-HVX200 has a one year warranty with the typical exclusions.

P2 only Cameras like the AG-HPX170 can be upgraded to the 5 year warranty when you do the online registration. The AG-HPX170 has a one year warranty if you do not register it.

Also get everything in writing about what is wrong because even after the coverage is gone if a problem still isn't fixed it should be covered.

Hi and thanks for all the feedback.

thekreative- that sounds wise. do you mean i should request that from vidcom when i get it back?
