Butterflies in the Wind in pursuit of happiness

Oh, that would've been great to have met you. I was meeting an Australian cameraman who works out of Hollywood. In fact, Starbucks is my favorite meeting place :-)

What do you think of my putting up the whole movie online for everybody to see? Will I be able to sell more DVDs?

Wow, Chris, it's like you found one of my next of kin :-) and I ain't even dead yet.LOL Brown Bunny is a film I could've made. I haven't seen the movie but I liked the look of the movie and the story sounds like what I go for in filmmaking.

What a strange character this Gallo fellow is -- I just read a bit about him for the first time.

Just goes to show: we don't get to see a lot of avant garde films in suburbia... unless we happen to have been in Cannes during the festival season or something....

Thanks for bringing this movie to my attention. I'm going to definitely pursue this style of filmmaking in the future. I like the degree to which Vince Gallo went in his outrageous portrayal of ... weirdness.LOL

Thanks, Herzog ... for commenting :-)

definitely check it out. Brown Bunny is not for everyone's taste, but I loved it because of how daring it was.

Also, you may wanna watch "Buffalo 66" while you're at it.

"Buffalo" is much more commercial than "Brown Bunny" in terms of narrative, but is still very avant guard. You'll love it

Yeah, I saw the trailer for Brown Bunny on imdb. It was avant garde to be sure. I'm going to rent these two movies of Gallo.

Thanks again for turning me on to these films.

I'm in the process of mounting the whole movie on the web. I want the whole world to see my Brown Bunny.LOL. I put the first 20 minutes in a password protected directory. If you want to see it, e-mail me:

I managed to break up BUTTERFLIES IN THE WIND into 4 parts and place them online. Each file is about 45 MBs. The size of the frame is 480x270 (16:9 format).

I'm going to design a page for BUTTERFLIES IN THE WIND and begin marketing the movie as streaming for download. This is something completely new for me. I've never been able to do this before technically. I'm kind of excited about it. Could this be the way of the future for all indie movies?

I wonder.... What do you think?

Ok, I set it all up. Screen BUTTERFLIES IN THE WIND online for $2.
I created a PayPal button for it.
I'm curious how many people will view the movie.
At this point I don't have marketing funds.

I keep erasing everything I write. I don't know what key I'm hitting ?

Anyway, I was saying that I've learned how to stream movies from my own website :-)

In the middle of all this a distribution contact has shown interest in the movie, but they want to recut the movie in order to buy it outright. This is a 35mm feature film. I'm not taking less than $150,000 for it, but at the same time I'm not sure if I'd like somebody else to re-edit it.

I'm going to do a banner also. Thanks for letting me know.

I'm having a meeting with a distributor about re-editing my movie for an outright sale. Without an advance I'm not going for the deal. I'd rather make sales on amazon.com with my feature film than take a chance on getting my movie out in distribution and never making a dime. I don't need the name at this point in my career :-)

This is great news Vic, keep us all updated.

Thanks, Jim.

I even slept on it and still couldn't figure out what to do. Everything the distributor said was true. I'm always reminded of what this business is all about; it's about survival I guess, like a lot of other business. I just can't live with it. I'm stubborn and unpractical when it comes to giving away any of my movies. There is a terrible word for it in psychology, which I'm going to skip because I don't like to think of myself like that. LOL

Anyway, recut the movie ... exciting ten minutes at the beginning ... new mix ... some additional footage ... and restructure. All good advice.

How many times do we recut a movie? Do we go forward or constantly mull over what we did before? It's all a matter of prioritizing. Time is of the essence.

Must think about it some more. It makes me so much want to go back into distributing my own movies in the foreign market....
