Wondering how the two cameras compare in terms of picture quality when the 200 isnt shooting HD, but rather its mini-dv tape is used.

thanks...( i thought i saw a similar post some time back , but cant find it now... so apologies up front for possible post-redundancy...)

hi McSean,
The 200 does well on SD mini-dv tape for progressive formats like 24p. It does quite poor for 60i. Lots of jagged edges. In my opinion, the 100 is better suited for SD, unless you want to shoot HD and down convert using software or hardware. Some do this for better looking DVDs and Web output, it protects for future HD release but adds another tedious step in the workflow.

Note: its been answered in depth in the past, do a search for more info.

I would go with the dvx 100a or 100b over the hvx 200 in standard def mode....the hvx isn't nearly as good as the dvx in low light

and for me that is huge...I see over a stop of difference between the two cameras in standard def mode

I have a 200a, and have not yet even used the tape deck. But I read somewhere that you can shoot in variable frame rates at 720p, then downconvert/transfer it to miniDV through the camera.
