New iMovie 09 software stabilization feature

It looks basically like Shake's SmoothCam FX (Which is the same tool that is now in Motion and Final Cut). Nice to know tech like that is now available in a consumer level app like iMovie.

I haven't used the new iMovie, but SmoothCam works fine for what it's designed for. It won't fix the rolling shutter and it degrades the quality of the video slightly, but it's useful for certain, moderately shaky, situations.

if the footage has rolling shutter this stabilizer will NOT fix it. It is mainly for shots that are fuzzy or vibration from minor hand held shake...

Minor rolling shutter it will help, yes...but noticeable rolling shutter it will do nothing for.

I use the same plug-in inFCP and its helpful but you cant use on 100% of your footage, if you have to then there is other things you need to fix WAYY before that...

The new iLife isnt out yet and is only a week or two away....but is def worth a look. I love the geotagging in iPhoto and Face Detection (you click on a face and it automatically finds all pics with that person in the picture)

I have stabilised stuff from HV10 / FX1 / ZU1 / HV30 / 5D2 (all rolling shutters) with no problem.

I use either iStablize or After Effects.

Maybe I should clarify further....those cams you listed do not have as serious of a rolling shutter as the LARGE CMOS sensor D90 does....therefore rolling shutter is more exaggerated. The FX plug will do little to fi "D90" extreme rolling shutter...

but i also have used some AVCHD footage from my HF11 with the stabilization FX and it works great...

I think what people are trying to say is that it would not help with the "jello" effect; and if there was already a "jello" effect in the picture it would be amplified.

This program only helps with slight hand held (or something similar) movement correction. But won't help if you already captured 'jello'.
