HVX lifespan?

No but a while back a rental house had an ad selling one that had 5,000 hours on it. They claimed it still performed like new.

wow really? a person who knew i was looking for a hvx offered me theirs with 549 hours on it with 2 4gig p2 cards and original acceries for $3,100. seems like a good deal?

Yea, I just bought another one with no p2 cards for $2700. Sounds like a fair deal to me. All mine have about 500 hours on them and perform like new.

The only thing to worry about is the tape heads wearing out, I think they are rated for 2,000 hours. The hvx can probably run forever recording to P2. 500 hours would not bother me one bit, actually I'd rather have a camera that has depriciated in value, you can use it for two or three years and loose less money on it than the original owner did.

I think you shold grab it in a heart beat.

Since we do live productions we have our cameras turned on for countless hours. They may only be handled for 5% of that time and recorded on less than that. It's hard to judge the HVX condition just by the hour meter.

Even a camera that only has 50 hours could be a terrible thing if it was improperly handled. Like by a News Photog! :)

I'd recommend you take a look on ebay. I've seen similar cameras that sold for well under $3K recently. Unless you're ebay-phobic (I've had excellent luck with it), I think you can do considerably better than $3100, and you might find deals with 8 and 16 GB cards included in that range.

Hours Used

Hey there...I never found anything in the manual on this, but does the HVX200 log hours used (specifically head drum time)? If so, how is the data retrieved?

Thanks.
