Trouble Uploading on the HPX!

Hey guys, just got an HPX170 and did some test footage and love it. The only thing is, i am having one hell of a time trying to get my footage uploaded. I have tried the firewire via 1394device and host, and the USB 2.0, and it reads the camera as "NO NAME" so i click on it and there are a whole bunch of .XML files that i cannot read. I am running on MacOSX (most recent version), do i need to download some software so that i can read the files? what should i do?

you cant just "read the files" off a p2 card like you can with traditional DV files. you will need something like raylight, p2cms, p2log pro or final cut pro (or i think the newest premier pro), etc... something that can read mxf files.

You are part way there. You got the NO NAME P2 cards to mount. Now you need to offload them keeping the exact file structure intact...for this I recommend SHOTPUT P2 by ww.imagineproducts.com, as it does a file verifaction copy. Better than dragging and dropping on finder level. The drive you offload them too will be your ARCHIVE drive. Or you can use P2CMS by Panasonic, but I myself find it a clumsy bit of software. But you can use it to look at your footage...view it.

But once you offload your cards, now you are ready to bring them into your Editing Software. What are you using? FCP (since you have a Mac), or Premiere Pro? Here is the workflow for FCP...tutorial:

YOu cannot edit DVCPRO HD footage with FC Express...nor can you load P2 footage into it. It only works with DV and HDV. You need to upgrade to Final Cut Pro in order to work with P2.

Thanks Shane! So i should have no problem uploading through firewire after i get the newest version of FCP?
