Wide Angle on HVX w/ Letus Extreme

Does anybody know how wide of a lens you can get without getting any vignetting while using the Letus Extreme on the HVX? I've been using a 24mm and I'm no where close and I would like to go wider.
 
on my redrock which should basically be the same as the letus I can use my nikon 17-35 f2.8 if I zoom into about 19 to get a sharp shot with no vignette. It has trouble focussing below 19.
 
thanks for the word! stock? not sure what you mean.......... do you mean film stock?

do you get any distortion when your at 17mm?
 
I think he means "stock" as in without any adapters. Wide angle lens wont have a shallow depth of field anyway. This defeats the purpose of using 35mm adapter.

I have a Nikkor 20mm 1:2.8D and it does just fine on the Letus with no vignetting. If you
close it down, you can get some depth-of-field .. certainly nothing like my 2/100 .. but
you can get a DOF foreground/background effect with it.

One other option would be to get the Century optics 0.75x lens. It broadens the field of
view and has a weight advantage as well. The only bummer with it is the rather noticeable
chromatic aberration on the edges .. especially if light sources are there.

I see what your saying, but doesn't the adapter also add a "film texture" as well as DOF? I mean.... I could use a 20mm on the HVX and then use a 20mm lens on the adapter and wouldn't picture look different?
 
it will definitely look different. stock vs. Letus with 20mm Nikkor vs Century 0.75x all look quite different (to me).

When I said stock I meant using just the lens on the camera. No point in buying any lenses for the letus because you cant go under 19mm and the HVX is about the same as that. If you need something really wide you will have to buy a lens for the HVX itself.

I see what your saying about stock, but If I'm using the Letus on one shot and then cut to a wide withOUT the letus, then wouldn't the difference be enough for it to look inconsistent and "wierd". As jmarkham puts it.... they all look different and I just want to stay consistent.

And this is just a thought....... what if I used a wide angle converter on front of the nikon lens?
 
Well I just got back from a shoot where we had an A and B camera unit. A camera had a Redrock M2 with nikon lenses and B camera was used stock for steadicam wide angle shots. As long as you shoot all your MS CU MCU with the Letus and the Wide angle stuff with stock there will be no difference. There is some theory that adapters change the contrast latitude so you may have to light slightly differently for stock. IE. White walls tend to blow out easier when shooting stock.
