this is a little rough but basically in order.

1. Flight of the Red Balloon
2. The Silence of Lorna
3. Wendy & Lucy
4. The Wrestler
5. Milk
6. Ballast
7. Rachel Getting Married
8. Paranoid Park
9. Happy-Go-Lucky
10. Slumdog Millionaire
If I were a bettin' man (and I am)...
I woulda put money on Frost/Nixon being the film that at long last
marked the crossroads of our respective tastes (yours and mine).

What gives?

Yeah terrific list, especially Paranoid Park being included, just I'm not so sure about Slumdog yet

and Hsiao-hsien Hou is the man

you know... i'm iffy on Slumdog too. I didn't buy the love story. i think it's on my list more for the craftsmanship, than the content.

Slumdog was so pretty, stylistically. Had great moments. I found the love story trite, though.

I had to vote for "Other," not because I wanted to be contrary, but because there is no doubt for me that the best film I watched was 4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days.

I saw it on DVD. It has a slow start and then becomes the most riveting film I've seen in an awfully long time. The tension is intense, but entirely internalized and emotional--it's all about the characters' dilemmas. It has some very innovative style choices too. But it's a story that you can't get out of your mind. I've sorta already forgotten about Slumdog.

i honestly don't know what the fuss is all about with Wall-e. I didn't think it was that good. I thought the plot had a lot of potential but the movie was flat and dry.

I was able to see some concept boards for Wall=e a couple weeks ago at pixar, in the original story the humans were translusant jelly blobs, rather than being in space foe hundreds of years, it was going to hundreds of thousands of years, all the writing on earth was going to be in a future text, and we were only going to find out it was earth at the end of the film.
