Fisheye for HMC150

Hey guys,

I'm probably going to be ordering an HMC150 in the next couple months for semi-professional uses. I will also be filming stuff on the side like skateboarding, skiing, biking etc. I am in the market for a fisheye lens. Is there a fisheye that doesn't have any of the circular border or vignetting showing for this camera yet?

Thanks.

Well first I would say try without the fisheye lens. The camera has a CRAZY wide shot already and you'll probably be able to get much of the action on frame as it is.

(unless you're going for that cliche fisheye look for all the skate vids) I would recommend shoot without it and 1-up everybody else.

Yeah thomas, I agree with you that a fisheye for skating is cliche. But I think one without the circular border wouldn't be as bad. In fact, I was just watching a ski video and i had to look fairly hard to notice that they were actually using a fisheye lens. This was probably because they didn't have the ugly border/vignetting around the edges.

the century/schnieder lens and the 16x9 inc. .45x lens(the .4x model has vignetting) are the only two that will work with the hmc150 at the moment. hopefully century/schnieder will release a .3x model, but thats likely to cost about as much as the camera.

The 0.3x ultra fisheye for the XH-A1 costs about 1000 bucks. I still hope they will come up with a version for the HMC.

but that one for the a1 is a waste of money, the amount of vignetting that lens has is unacceptable in my opinion.

Since both the A1 and the HMC150 have a 72mm thread, is there a way to use the Canon model on the HMC? Migfht be worth a try....

All fisheye lenses have circular borders, AFAIK, unless the lens projects an image that is large enough to be cropped to a rectangle (the corders are still a circle, but the image you see is rectangular).

For the 150, mangler's suggestions seem like the go. hth, kl

ummm..... yeah?

Anyway, thanks for the help everyone! I had no idea they were that expensive. I'm moving over from an HV30 where the best add on lenses are like 200 bucks. haha.

seven.b; yes. See here:

When that kind of a lens does have rectangular borders, it's because its image circle is big enough to be cropped into that shape by the capturing device (so you only see that part of the image that is projected onto the device), but the full image itself is a circle, or circular. hth. kl
