Well I couldn't find one when we looked but I will create poll but you can also have your own opinion as well based on or off this poll. in recent years I have gotten back in to more traditional film making, less foreign films than ever lately. So these are the top 10 films I have seen this year. Excluding The wrestler and Syndoche, New York which never made it to my parts of the world.

1. The Dark Knight (entertaining, smart and finally 'real'. + Heath Ledger)

2. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (David Fincher's Current Opus. + Brad Pitt + Hidden Technology.)

3.Slumdog Millionaire (Amazingly epic feeling. Good Performance's and structure +Old Danny Boyle Feel.)

4.*TIE* Milk (Van Sant's Current Opus. + Great Performances, Especially from Sean Penn.) Frost/ Nixon (Frank Langella, Skeletor Killed it Awesome.)

5. Wall-E (Dark but fun. The right steps for Pixar. + Roger Deakin. + first 45 mins. -the last hour, feel like they realized they might have to 'dumb it down'.)

6. Gran Torino (great clint film directing/acting. + Clint's performance. - other people's performance's - felt like million dollar baby lite)

7. Pineapple Express (Seth Rogen and James Franco make this so fun. + Silly story and the campy fun, the two seem like they are your friends. - Cliche pitfalls)

8. Rachel Getting Married (Realism. + J Demme. +Anne Hathaway - no one is watching it.)

9. Religulous (I don't know! +Bill + story and structure +interesting locations and people - no one is watching it. - goes slightly atheistic but only slightly for an agonistic film.

10. Doubt (Actors Acting! +Streep + Hoffman +Adams + Scene steal from Viola Davis! Amazing! + Roger Deakins - You can tell it was a play with length scene and not much coverage. -/+ too many ambiguities.

Those are my top ten the poll will serve as what you think would be the number one. I will leave off pineapple express, though I liked it, for an other option.

too bad you haven't gotten to see it yet, because the answer is The Wrestler

I'm not a big mickey rourke fan ever since he started a fight with me at the crap table at the mirage in vegas back in 1997 then tried to have his body guards finnish it but I have heard others speak highly of this film.

A producer I know sent him 30 copies of this for Christmas:

Glad to see him be in a film of such caliber. :Drogar-Thinking(DBG

yeah this list is lacking. youre never going to see Gran Torino, Religulous, Rachel Getting Married on a serious top 10 list.

I seen plenty of films this year john. these films are what i wouldn't consider be some of the best US related releases, not counting schism of course, but yeah I want to see what most people like. This was my listed and there is an other section you jack ass. most people have voted in. Perhaps next time you will read the description also many film critics have liked these film I haven't seen the reader or revolutionary road as well but when they come out in my area i will, i live in area where no limited films get seen here. So my Lyon of Lyon den films perhaps your list is more amazing. well im only 23 and working and going to college perhaps I don't get to watch as many movies as you do monsignor.

I'm not sure what all this above means, but to prevent confusion just re-title the thread to "Jeremy Hyler's Favorite Movies of 2008." deep breaths, man.

#7 The Dark Knight
#8 Gran Torino

Frost/Nixon I still need to see that as well. it comes out here next tuesday.

I'm not a big singer fan do you think valkyrie is that awesome cali? Also I liked the changeling but thought gran torino was much more bittersweet. I felt like Iron man was alittle hyped. In burges... Didn't catch my eye.

Don't believe the horseshi* reviews of Valkyrie...or those of Cruise's performance!
Both are solid in every way.

I gotta agree with you, I went in expecting much less than I got out of it. Don't think it will make my own top ten but it was still a pretty solid thriller. Making this movie work especially with everyone knowing the outcome is a feat in and of itself. And throw in the automatic Tom Cruise hate -- kudos to Singer for pulling it off. Welcome back!
