The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

ii been waiting for this since fincher mention it before zodiac.... I would have to say this is , at the moment, his Opus. I used to think Fight Club would be it but as fun as that film is this a beautiful love story. craft very traditional. you couldn't tell his mark besides the brilliance he pulls out of pitt. The Technologically advanced rendering which fincher has been a pioneer in, is the only marvel in any tricks he know of doing. The strangeness of the story and the sad romance is something i adore from fincher. I felt sadness which I rarely feel from films.

I loved it. great performances stunning visual aging process on both blanchett and pitt and interesting story and characters.

Sh*t!!!

That was really really good.

I was the only person in the theater who sat through the credits, which made me think "what is everyone doing?" but it almost heightened the whole experience. This film was really incredible.

screenwriter was eric roth so the forrest gump comparisons are apt.

gotta say, i found it difficult to get into this one. the episodic nature of it was a let down for me. i love taraji henson and i was glad to see her in such a pivotal role. but again, the lack of a compelling narrative drive allowed my mind wander. i found myself looking for flaws in the aging fx when i should have been lost in the world of these characters. i thought the last 10 minutes were the best of the film.

Zak, could you elaborate on the "lack of compelling narrative drive"?

I can see how the "episodic nature" might hurt the film for some; maybe in the less-edited version the transitions between "episodes" are somewhat smoother.

Tonight was the calm before the storm...

This is an amazing movie, the 2nd or 3rd movie I will see again at the theater since Star Wars (no camparisson, I was 7 then)...

I'll be back, maybe to see it 3 times.

I share the same sentiments, Zak. This is the first Fincher film that I disliked, which is disappointing cause Cate Blanchett is my favorite actress.

It was actually kind of forgettable.

Beautiful, for anyone who thinks that digital has not yet arrived, they should see this film... uhh movie. I didn't know what it was shot on till afterwords, i suspected digitial due to the special fx nature of the subject matter... also there is one shot of Cate Blanchett in CU (Magic Hour Sunrise Setting, and her face is a sickly blue, bad skin tone... and I was thinking, thats odd... but then the shot bloomed with orange highlights and pushed the blues into the shadows, simulating the moment of the sunrise... the effect was nice but felt digital, not that it wouldn't have been done on film or even looked different, it just felt like a digital mindset... I'll stop rambling.

Great story, I see many oscars coming. The Forrest Gump comparisons are apt. Not my favorite movie of the year, but I would blame that on my tastes (Forrest Gump wasn't my favorite either, but I can recognize incredibly executed mass appeal films). Many, Many people will love this movie.

great movie. nay... Brilliant movie. david fincher is really something special. i am excited to see his future projects.

he just shot a nike commercial with the Red camera and he edited zodiac and benjamin button entirely in FCP and even used magic bullet looks to add vintage film effect in the flashback scenes. he is always experimenting with new technology.

I thought the vintage film look looked terrible. Both of types of film flashbacks looked bad, even for magic bullet.

Was it just me, or was anybody else thinking that some of the night stuff was really dark? I spent half the movie wondering if someone mis-printed the release print.

Absolutely beautiful film. I saw it at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood projected digitally and visually it was fantastic.
