32GB Ultra IIs due...

around 9 Jan from what I have just been told. If they don't appear before in the US and a punter takes a gamble (or gets it from a no questions asked return place) I have been told it won't be a problem to get a sample for compatibility testing as soon as they land.

While I am hopeful on their compatibility, with the few other 32GBs not even being recognised with any reader so far I wouldn't place money on it just yet.

I have already purchased one of the first batch that land in the UK at the begining of January. I can't see any obvious reason why they wouldn't work.

Well I would put the 9th Jan in the 'begining' of Jan..

Anyway, my concern is the total lack of other 32GB cards even being recognised as valid media. Forget write speed, they just arn't recognised. So the question is if the 32GB Ultra II will be recognised. I really really hope so but as I said, I'm not just assuming it will.

Just saw the first user in the US reporting the 32GB Sandisk Ultra II 15MBps card appear to be compabitle. Recognised (158min record time) and a short record test worked ok. Only preliminary but that was all I was worried about, I am sure from here it will all be sweet.

It was tested with a Kensington.

That 158min must have been in SP, because in HQ you would expect only 118min of course. Even for their premium the concept of near on 4 hours of HQ without touching a card is going to be very tempting for many. Of course if you are anything like me I always try to swap a full card ASAP in case the active card suddenly fails for some unknown reason (SxS or KxS), they you can start recording almost instantly again. There is even something to be said for pro-actively switching slots when that about to switch warning comes up so if the switch fails, you can go back to the nearlly full card with enough time to load the second slot again. It is highly unlikely this will be needed but it is just another option to the paranoid or those who like to play on the very safe side...

Hmmm...This obviously sounds great for the price. But I'd be worried about putting so much footage on one card.

Has anyone been using the XxS solution for events and weddings? You have one chance to capture the moment and can't afford an error message.

I use my EX1 mostly for the commercials I direct and I will soon be using it for weddings. I'm seriously worried about the cards funking up. Although I love the price.

Also, I really like having the slow motion capability.

If you need slo mo... no big deal, use your SxS card.
I've been using this combo for almost 4 months with No errors.

...But I'd be worried about putting so much footage on one card.

This is a dead argument for me. Either you have:

2x16GB: Twice the chance of loosing half the data
1x32GB: Half the chance of loosing all the data

So would you rather twice the chance of loosing half of that wedding? If you use 32GB cards you only need to swap cards half as often which also reduces the chances of problems due to the swapping process (dropping cards & anything else you might be able to imagine).

I think the best practice is buy a Kensington for every Card you want to use.
That is my intention having bbought four and put 2x16gigs in two and I am going to buy 2x32s for the other in the new year.
That way I won't have to mess around swapping cards and can treat them as all in SxS cards.

Hi All,

I just thought you might be interested in a post one of our users made on another forum concerning our MxR Expresscard Reader,

"Got the cards yesterday. Works with the Sandisk 32gb sdhc cards, 16 gb transcend cards aswell as the 16gb sandisks - simply awesome!"

He actually beat me to the post, as I have been unable to get hold of a 32Gb card to test. But it is good to know that it works. Now, lets see how do I get one? B&H, Amazon?

Ross, they should be avaliable in Australia in a week or two. I was told 9 Jan but thats probably because most distributors don't open again until 5 Jan. I can get some for you as soon as they are avaliable if you are interested (I am a registered Sandisk reseller).

So far the 32GB Sandisk Ultra IIs are comming up trumps in all compatible adaptors (ie if they work with the 16GB Ultra II cards, they work with the 32GB). That includes KxS, DxS and MxS.
