Ikan V-8000HD 8" vs Nebtek NEB70HDS 7"

Not positive, but I seem to recall a year or two ago that someone mentioned that the BNC connectors on the Ikan are soldered directly to the main board, os if you drop it on the BNC connector or a cable is attached and gets yanked hard, you destroy the main board. If this is true, it is inherently a bad design.

My vote goes with Nebtek, I don't own one but I have rented them and they are really nice for the money. The Panny is great too but too heavy for small cameras IMHO. The new Marshall sounds interesting as long as it is better than the old Marshalls, which I have used and did not like.

yes, indeed, panny is heavy, and ikan has connectors soldered to the board, but i heard there are issues with nebtek...

i can't tell you exactly, but do a search, you will see people having problems. i suggest you to go with carrion, instead of nebtek.

From what I have read, Luis is completely buried with work and other projects and is taking upwards of 6 months to deliver his Carrions. Great monitor but who can wait six months to have a piece of gear delivered?

I will do a search but I have never seen anything negative about the Nebteks posted anywhere. Post links if you have them.

i talked to Luis before buying panasonic and asked for real lead time on monitors, he
said it's up to 6 weeks. anyway, i bought my panasonic off ebay from beijing olympics for 1700$ with hd sdi, so really worth it.

FWIW, I met and spent quite a bit of time with the IKAN people at NAB.
To some degree, you get what you pay for. But the IKAN people were very interested in my feedback and they make a great product at a much more affordable price.
They allow you to buy more tools without breaking the bank. Like everything else, it's just another option.
Best of luck with your decision.

Really good specs and the monitor looks clean. My only concern is the resolution [taken from their webpage: 8.9 LCD is real HD (1024x600)] is this 16x9 or 16x10? and how would a screen with this pixel count achieve 720p?

Well the Ikan is 800 x 480, the Marshall is 800 x 480, the Panasonic is 800 x 480, the Nebtek is 800 x 400 and yet the the Manhattan LCD monitor is 1024x600! And on top of the that it is only $425! Whats the catch?!?! Just speculating but I'm guessing it's just made poorly compared to the the other brands. Can anyone explain how this monitor can have more resolution yet be much cheaper?

It seems that manhattan lcds arent mass produced as compared to how Ikans are for example. Manhattan LCD looks like a small co. that takes screen panels and makes them into monitors with care. their past models looked really hand-made (customers needed to build their own cases, etc.) - and those had very good feedback on here (from what i've read). the new one coming out is now more pro-packaged. it also isnt that much mass produced (says 22 left to preorder on the site).

$425, prior reviews, specs was enough for me to give it a try. I wanted direct HDMI from the d90 and Ikan was just a bit too steep for me.

yeah, i'm very interested to hear about this manhatten LCD. but i need to spend some money before the end of the year and i was looking to invest in a good lower end HD LCD monitor. i think i might give it a try.

i really like the hdmi for my hmc150

I have the ikan and it is what it is. light and works great for pulling focus, composition, i have blown mine up twice, both time someone hooked up my 12v battery backwards. they turned it around in 2 days, both times. anyone done this to the $2000 monitors? how much to fix? when i move up to the red or scarlet will need the hd sdi plug. so far its working for me , color is not correct but it is 10 times better than nothing but the flip.

I'm not sure if I follow you..... how can you possibly hook up a battery backwards?

when you say "they turned it around in 2 days"... do you mean the factory fixed it in two days?

Neither Ikan, neither Swit, and i can suppose any other cheap monitor don't display correct colors. Panny is the way to go if you want quality, if you can afford it, go for it.
