Is it possible to capture from a deck to the Firestore FS100?

So I have a ton of miniDV tapes ranging back about 10 years - and I'm intent on getting all that footage onto drives if possible.

The thing that has always stopped me is tying up my computer for all the time needed to capture from a deck.

So - it occurred to me today to try hooking up my FS100 to my old DSR11 deck to see if I couldn't just record directly to the Firestore off tape.
Well, I can't seem to be it to work - but it really seems like it should (at least to me).

Am I crazy?
The FS100 is hooked up to the deck via Firewire, and set to record a DV signal.
The deck is putting out a DV signal.....

so what's the problem?
Is this just not possible?

Any ideas?

It certainly should work, shouldn't it? You should be using the record button on the FS-100 to capture the incoming data stream; make sure your menus are set for DV 60i mode, etc...

so did it work? Would be good to find out. I have a JVC SR-DVM70 that I used to store my master clips onto before I transferred onto tape (all in the same unit: DV/miniDV, Hard Drive, DVD Recorder). I recently lost one of my harddrives and the .avi masters with it. So now my JVC deck is the only storage I have.

If I can get the clips out to the Firestore that would rock, instead of having to transfer onto miniDV then pull the footage back off the tapes onto computer.

Update us please!

No I haven't been able to get it to work - double checked settings, etc.
FS100 is set to local control and I can get it into REC mode, but when I do the counter doesn't move at all and no clips get recorded to the drive (as if it's not getting a signal).

Meanwhile the DSR11 can be hooked up to my computer via FireWire and used perfectly fine - so I know the deck isn't the problem.

The FS100 works perfectly fine with the camera as well....

so I'm left scratching my head.
It's either not possible... or I"m doing something really stupid.

So it's still 50/50
:)

I dropped Focus an email about it to see if they can shed any light on the possibility.
I'll post here when I hear back from them.

EDITED TO ADD:
Just found this in an article on the FS100 from Focus's site:

"Although optimized for the Panasonic AG-DVX200,
the FS-100 will also capture video from other compatible
DV/DVCPRO/ DVCPRO 50 or DVCPRO HD Panasonic devices
(decks as well) with a FireWire port"

So it sounds like it should work.
I can't imagine the issue is that I'm trying to use a Sony deck.... a DV Firewire signal should be a DV firewire signal.
