My First Short Film

wow. this was so beautiful and so powerful. cinematography was topnotch. narration and storyline was very well acted and portrayed.

you didn't hook me in the first 30 seconds, you hooked me in the first 10 minutes and 14 seconds.

incredible short.

any behind the scenes photos? any good stories while shooting?

This could have won LossFest hands down the best film ive seen for a first timer.
Lighting was dark yet perfect
Focus was off, but perfect for the scenes.
Acting was great.
Shots were very good.

I really enjoyed it

Wow! Very nice!

Great writing - beautifully executed. You've got an excellent visual narrative sense.

Terrific - one of the better shorts I've seen.

Very very nice work. And I see you used a bogen tripod. nice. See guys, great shots can be had with the bogen. sometimes we get a bit caught up around here with the super pricey when a good ol' Bogen works just fine

Very nice cinematography

the cinematography was very tight on this, it was soft in a lot of the shots to me, but the overall project still looked great. very well put together.

i liked the actor, for some reason reminds me of clive owens the way his voice sounds with the accent. all the actors did a good job too.

damn good job on this being your first short film.

good dialogue, but i wasn't hooked at all by the story though.

That was really impressive! How long did it take to shoot? Great casting. The actors are really good. Can't wait to see what else you do.

thanks folks

The film took 3 months to make. It would have been quicker but I had to hang around waiting for locations to become available to me. I made this film with my own gear and my money. People worked for free on it but things still cost, mainly the locations. I did hire and pay for lights tho. My crew consisted of me and one other person usually.

Mickey thanks for your honesty. My main ambition is to make films with a personal feel. I want to make films that I am passionate about and the those films speak to me. I believe films like that just can't speak to everyone because its too personal.
therefore that means some people wont relate to the story, or perhaps hate it. However it does mean that for some, it will strike a chord. And for them they will love the film. I dont want to make films for everyone, those films in my opinion are just ok. I want my films to create a love/hate, to reflect the passion I have for film and for life. So in many ways I'm very glad for your honesty about the story not speaking to you. I have been waiting for that reaction to know I have achieved my goal. So far, from the creening I had of the film last week, the reactions have been wonderful. A few people left the screening with teary eyes and didnt stay for drinks after.

So far, I believe the film has achieved what I hoped it would, above and beyond what I thought I was capable of at this point in my life. :)

well done mate. how i envy those tube shots. did it cost you filming in the LU? how hard it is to get a permit? cheers.

Actually I thought I'd never get permission but I actually got a students filming pass. I'm not a student but the LU, under small print, gives student permits to non profit film makers. I plan to only show my film at festivals but want no monetary gains from it. Other than to get further work of course. The permit allowed me to film for 1 whole month. I could film anywhere on the tube accessable by pedestrians and always with the granted permission of whoever the station manager. I had to send picture of myself and get all the relevant security stuff sent to them and that took about 2-3 weeks. What did this permit cost??

£30

yeah £30.

I remember watching one of your HVX/M2 tests a year back and that being the video that inspired me to go HVX and adapter. Good to see your first foray into shorts. Looking forward to more.

thanks folks

that's cool, as long as it meets your expectations, i certainly don't want to make it sound like if the story didnt grab ME then it sucks. i'm not your target audience anyway. movies are subjective, there is no one movie everybody likes. i just always say what i really think. regardless, good luck.

Very well constructed short. I was totally immersed in the short and it didn't give any hint that it was made by an amateur filmmaker.

Great cinematography on display throughout. acting was superb. score was well suited. not crazy about pieces with long V.O. like this. You have it nailed visually and have the ability to get subtle performance so I look forward to see more of your work. Well done.

Well done, a first film ... chapeau. I liked the narration from the main actor, give the mood. Sometime, a bit dark but the cinematography is very good and the montage is well done too. Nice score. Good luck !
