KxS is dead, long live KxS

Which is another advantage XxS has over SxS, SD media is easily read off by both laptops and desktops alike even if a slower (who cares!!!)

XxS? X = generic letter for any reader (ie it represents 'a' reader)
S = SDHC, not Sandisk?

Does it work as a generic term to replace KxS which was quite specific?

True,
Sure it would be nice when in a hurry loading to your editor.

Due to the $$ cost of SxS, my original concern was I would have to offload in the field.
The SxS cards are to expensive to carry around a half dozen. At the time it was $900x6 = $5400 (damn near the cost of the camera)
Now that we have KxS or whatever combo your using, I can buy TEN 16GB cards for LESS than cost of one SxS.

All of a sudden, there's no running around in panic in the field trying to offload footage to another drive.

Ah okey, i didnt realise it was a PCI based reader..

I have a feeling i still might buy the Sony Reader.. i really need it if im sending me camera out on rentals..

It is great SDHC cards are so easy to read.. i guess i cant have Fast AND Cheap cards all in one..

You should be getting close to 1GB/minute with Ultra II SDHC cards.
Your numbers say your not.
You have a SDHC card reader problem.

Steve, Im running a standard USB2.0 SD Card reader straight into the side of my macbook, going to the internal drive.. im about to test it going to my Western Digial Mybook connected by FW400 (All the macbook has)

In Theory this should be faster.. especially because i can transfer XDCAM disc material via FAM to a FW400 drive through my old ImacG5 at speeds of 1.5x for IMX50. Thats 400 in and 400 out.

I'm using a reader I got free with one of my SanDisk Ultra II cards.
It gets close to 1GB/minute.

Download the free Crystal Mark Disk utility and report back the speed of your SDHC cards.

Steve, havent had a chance to test Crystal Mark as i dont own a PC, will try it out on a friends tomorrow.

Testing my card reader goign to the macbook and onto a FW400 drive... still 0.7x.

My sony card reader arrived from back order finally today, tested it going to the macbooks 5400rpm drive.... 3.0x transfer. - Something that should hopefully speed up when writing to a 7200rpm FW drive.

My card reader says its USB2.0. and my sandisks are definitely legit.. so im not sure why im getting such slow speeds with the SDHC cards.. will keep testing.

Forgive me if this sounds naive, but why would one need more than two per camera? Or better stated, would one need more than 2 per camera?

The reason people are buying more than 2 is due to the fact they are A - So Cheap, and B - Its much easier to keep track of a Expresscard than it is a SDHC card.. Just leave the card in there and you never have to worry.
