The Peretti Brothers Present SHADOWSTORM

Wow man, that was some fantastic work.

Would you be able to expand a bit on what was involved in terms of CG? What program was used? Does it take ages to learn how to do some of those visuals?

My brother Ed was in charge of the 3D work which included things like the beginning aerial shot, smoke bomb, overhead corridor scene and the flying bots. He modeled and animated in Maya. He's been modeling in 3D programmes for a few years now professionally so I don't think it's something you can do in an afternoon but hey you gotta start somewhere.

I then took the elements tweaked the grain, colour correction and composited them all in after effects. I'm no expert by any means in AE but I find just throwing yourself into to it and biting off more than you can chew normally forces you to learn as you go.

I'll try to do a few FX breakdowns with my brother as soon as he's back from holiday.

Cheers

WOW! I really enjoyed this, you guys have some mad skills! Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

hmmm it looks like film but not my style at all. the actors was bad and over the top. the lead was not exciting and you've created and used all the cliché possible for a sci fi movie ( british girl etc...). the good are the effect that you used. some very nice and well done. it's more an experimentation of effect than film with feeling and story. you're other movie nightshifters was way better. you got a style tho. keep doing it. it's just my opinion. focus on feeling and real actors who can give the right mood for the film. the bad guy was decent. he's the only one you can remember.

Hey Pascal, thanks for your comments on the film. I'm actually glad you have not been afraid to give your honest opinion. Looking at how sensitive your work is I can imagine this wasn't your cup of tea.

Most of the actors are my friends, Cruise, De Niro and Kidman just wouldn't take my calls :) The film is a parody, experiment and in no way meant to be taken seriously.

So I'm sorry there wasn't the deep emotional connection you may have been looking for but to tell you the truth I'm pretty tired of weepy emotional bull that happens in allot of shorts today. I'm tired of seeing shots that never move, women staring longingly out of windows and the self indulgent boring rubbish that fills our sites. I wanna see people pushing the envelope and showing what they can really do with a consumer camera and a bunch of talented friends.

This film in my opinion has every flaw you say it has, but it's not meant to be Shakespeare just a bit of light fun.

Sorry I don't mean to rant and I'm not looking for just sunny praise, but I do like a discussion!! :)

Cheers

good thing about film...and everything in life i guess is that its so vastly varied, catering to different palettes....i luv it. Both pascal and mr. rooster (lol) do amazing work in their own right :)

haha don'T worry. i totally agree with you rooster. we all do different kind of movies. the point of creating a piece it's to have fun, experimente in our own way. you did a great job in a lot of aspect. my movies are not for everyone the same for you. i respect a lot that you take your camera out of the box and you go try something. at least you are pushing your barrier. you are pushing and devoleping your limit. that's the beauty about art. for me i hate effect in video. it just create a time frame for the movie. your movie was done in 2008 and when you will watch in 2 years you will laugh so much . i did it before that's why :) i love when it'S only the camera, the actors and real locations. than you're movie can be timeless. i'm not saying that they are but at least i'm trying. we are there to create and at least we're trying. some people are just bitching for no reason and thye don't have the energy to try. you did , you will continue and that,s beautiful. keep up the work and i'll be there to see your next work.

search me on vimeo if you want to

by the way jambredz
did you see my latest?

3d bts

Hey guys,

I've taken some quick screen grabs of some behind the scenes 3d work.

Here is the begining city scene. As you can see it's a really basic 3d camera projection mock up I did on the quick as we were pushing the deadline as with most of the effects ;)

The Mr Grey getting punched scene used a digital stunt double. It's such a quick scene you hardley get to see him! So here's a shot of the model. This was made from photos of the actor and then animated.

The alert scene was added in at the last minute to add a little more dynamic between the shots. A digital double of Rob can be seen running along.

Last off, here's a bts on the droids. The background footage was loaded in as a reference point, and the droids were animated along curves. There electric currents were rendered as seperate pases.

luved it. i have a question. when using an adapter on the jib and dolly...when u pull out how do u focus? remote follow focus? ( if theres such a thing?)

i echo robbie MORE MORE :D

Did you impose the man on the projector after in the edit stage?

Great job!

More BTS!

Robbie

Yeah I stuck crosses made from gaffer tape onto the projector so I could match move in after effects. Problem was because of all the lights were on all day the glue on the tape melted and stuck to the canvas....resulting in a £3000 screen ruined :crybaby:

I blamed the marks on the cleaner....I know I'm going to burn for that one.

I think we were using a really wide lens so it didn't need to be adjusted for that move. I could be wrong, the DP took care of it all. You can get a remote focus, infact a friend of mine is developing one!
