Bad looking footage in FCP?

I don´t know what i am doing wrong but which ever mode i shoot in, when i view it in FCP after import my footage looks like webcam material! I get really noisy and grainy backgroud and horizontal lines cutting trough the image!

Now i am really in the proses of learning both my camera and fcp but i really don´t know why i can´t get a nice clean image even in 30p?

Is this an import problem or camera setting thing? or is my camera broken some how? Sometimes the picture looks really good in the camera display but then bad in fcp when i can get a larger view of the footage!

Any help would be greatly appreciated, because i want to throw my camera out the window and that is not the way it should be!

Any ideas?

So sometimes the footage looks bad in the DVX viewfinder/LCD?

Try hooking the DVX to a TV and viewing the footage from there, that should tell you if it's a camera fault or a FCP fault. Don't forget to view footage you've already captured that you know looks bad, that way you can check that part in detail.

Are you editing on an imac? Ive had issues with the video playback quality in fcp and quicktime on an imac(it was vary grainy), but when i export to dvd it played fine on a projector and tv. The horizontal lines might be caused by your timeline settings, if your editing 30p like you said make sure the field dominance is set to none(progressive) instead of upper or lower field first(interlaced)

It would help if you could describe the problems you're seeing more in detail, including shooting format(s), capture settings, timeline settings, etc., and some screen shots would be great.

Otherwise, there's not a lot anyone can do to help.

i am working on an macbook pro! I will check timeline settings and see, otherwise i will discribe it more in detail. Like i said a am new to it and i don´t have a good workflow yet so, everything you say is really making me realize stuff!
THNX alot!!!

just to be sure, is the timeline settings the settings i set for the sequence? And btw, what editing timebase would i use for 24pa?

what editing timebase and why, if somebody have the energy to explain it to me. i don´t want to know i want to understand!

Do you mean it looks crappy when you capture, and watch it as you capture? Or do you capture the footage, then play back the file from FCP? The reason i ask is it looks bad when I initially capture, but once the pulldown removal works its magic (recording in 24Pa squeeze mode) and I watch the file from the FCP viewer, it looks great. Are you recording in 24P or 30P? What shutter speed? What is your vertical line setting? How is your FCP import/capture set up? Everything has to jive across the board for it to work correctly.

Like everyone else said, you can verify your recording is good by connecting directly to a TV.

The footy on my computer looks crappy also. But I checked it on tv and it was fine. How do it get it the quality that it was on my tv on my computer? I work on Mac. I have FCE, Adobe Premiere and iMovie

Are you talking about when you import? Mine looks like crap while I'm importing, but after I review the actual file it looks beautiful. I film in 24Pa, in squeeze mode. Once the pulldown is removed, it looks sweet!
