Helicopter Shots With HVX200 & Smoothcam

Alright so Im making a documentary about winter and friends and such and I got some pretty sweet helicopter shots over the weekend and thought I'd share them with you guys. They were quite shaky so I decided to give smoothcam from fcp a try and it does work wonders, check it out!

Hi Robin,

I really enjoyed your edit. The heli shots were great, and it looks like you have the start to a really fun film. SmoothCam is a great addition to FCP, but damn... I used to use it when I captured full DVCPRO50 tapes, and running the analysis on a 33 minute video was time consuming (and yes, I know I could have logged and captured individual clips...) :)

Thanks for sharing with us!

Dude, that was off the chain. I liked that and I'm not normally a fan of that kind of thing. Great song too.

Wow!! That looks fantastic! As someone who doesn't like winter I'm actually interested in your documentary so good job. The smoothcam looks great. I have a few shots from my film I would like to smooth out. I should give it a try.

Hey, thanks for the interest..the footage was all handheld. and the helicopter was a R44 clipper )2 blade heli) There was absolutely no wind that day, so that helped too.

I've flown in the R22 which is definitely a calm day video platform. On a hot day with two 200 lb. men and a load of fuel and it struggles to get off the ground! I'm sure the R44 is much better. Our regular ride is the Jet Ranger.

i tried smoothcam the other day on a 8 second clip and it wanted to render 8 hours. this cant be right? I must have it wrong.. how long did it take you on your clips, and how long were the clips you used Smoothcam on?

I had the same issue. It's taking forever!! BTW which plug in did you use to create the falling snow?

oh ok yea.. When you put smoothcam on a clip..even if its a short 2 second clip but the original video file is lets say a minute...it will process it for the entire minute instead of your real 2 seconds...so if you take your 2 secs clip and export it into a new mov. and then put smoothcam on it it wont take long at all..

oh and the snow for the titles was from apple motion under the particles section. you can animate it in 3D..its fun stuff.

Yea i had to wait some ridiculous time like that too.. just leave it do its thing ...come back and when its done you can fool around with the settings and it wont have to process ever again. just render of course..
