Best way to mount a Firestore to a DVX100?

I'm planning on doing some time lapse recording with my DVX100 and my FS-4. I plan on attaching the camera to a building and pointing it at the shot I want to capture. Question, is how to attach the firestore to the DVX? Should I just build a big shelf and place it next to the camera?

I´m quite happy with this one:

Gear Dear has a cheaper solution thou.

I looked at both and the gear dear solution is $25 and the Canon is $105. Bif price difference. has anyone use the geardear solution?

Yeah, I find the $105 a bit steep if not obscene for a plastic cup and a swivel mount (at least it is a Manfrotto). It came with my Firestore - I would never have shelled out so much for that.

The Gear Dear solution looks not that bad for the money, but I would also add a swivel mount.

I think it was around 65 bucks, thou I can´t find a price on the website now.
$25 is omly the bracket.
Send them a mail, nice folks.

By accident?

Did you fall asleep and hit the "Buy Now" button by slaming your head on the keybord?

Frank

No hit the buy button by accident. Once the order was in I couldn't cancel it. Fortunately, I can return it if I don't like it. That's what I get for not paying attention.... LOL

how do you guys mount your cameras and firestores with the mount from amazon on a steadicam? it seems to plop one way more than another, also the cord is so short its a b**** to have it reach the firewire input on the dvx. i have had it pop out of the input, and today resulted in....no footage, well i got footage, but it was just super glitchy. what does yours look like, do you have problems like me?

When on the Steadicam, I mount the FS down where the monitor is, I bolted a hot shoe down there so it slips right in with that kit.

Reduces over all wight on a - anyway heavy - set up.

I also got a FW cable inside the mast. I secured the 4 pin plug with velcro, but working on a better solution in the moment, including a kind of little brake out box that stays at the cameras 4 pin socket (secured by a bracket) and connects the cable via mini XLR.

Frank

hmm i a bit confused on what you are saying postmaster? if its not too much trouble to ask, could you maybe post some pictures or clarify just a bit more? thanks that would REALLY help me haha.

Sorry the rig is rented out till next friday. But I try to make it clear.

Usualy on the upper end of the mast you got the camera on the sled.
At the lower end is where the battery, monitor and some wights live right?
I bolted the Firestore right next to the battery down there.
The FS cable goes (together vith the video cable for the monitor) throu the mast.

OOOOOHHHH...ok gotcha, im going to have to try that, sounds like a good idea, also, i was wondering why bebob charges so goddang much for their stupid under the camera holder thing?!?!!? seems like it would be very easy to create with a little time. maybe a hard drive inclosure type thing would work? i know ive seen a lot of them at micro center that look like they could serve this purpose. Maybe I'll look into this....:Drogar-SunGlass(DBG:Drogar-Shock(DBG):

We use a bebop box built for the firestore. At aprox $400 it is not the cheap option. It will mount under the camera and the steadicam to the box.

Ask timbook2, he´s just wrestling with one

But yeah, It´s pretty overpriced as most camera equipment (this is always excused with sooooo a small market :violin: )

Even the plastic shell that holds the FS is way overpriced - look what a car cell phone bracket costs....

At least that Bebob stuff is made of amuminum. But I saw much bigger, more complicated things made for a much smaller market for a fraction of that price.

Simple equation:
You own a camera - you make films - you are Hollywood - you are dumb enough to pay every price......

....even if the same stuff outside the movie industrie costs far less.

rant mode off/ Frank

I look at the equipment we buy as an investment, not just for the depreciation but for reliability as well. When billing your clients top dollar for your services you cant really be concerned about if your gear will deliver or not.

I recommend to everybody to consider the cost of losing a client vs the investment in reliable equipment.

As postmaster correctly assessed we pay extra just for being in the field we are. We also consider that our talent in our profession is backed by our image to our clientele. Yes, sometimes it's about keeping up appearances but most of it relies on the fact we invest in the best gear possible to ensure the success of our projects.

Just my 2c.

wow, very well put emretufekci, I see what you are saying! I'm not necessarily complaining, but I am just a puzzled at it haha, no biggie. For now I'll either stick with the hot shoe mount, or maybe on a rainy day, I'll get a home depot run and see what I can slap together, we'll have to see, if I come up with something good I will most deffinatly share with the dvxuser.com community!!!

Hi Frank,

I have a Steadicam Pilot system, the smallest arm/vest rig they make. I was wondering if you know if your solution would work on that rig? I'm guessing you have one of the bigger boys. If you have a pic of how it's set up, it would help immensely.

I mostly do long events and want to avoid HDV, and the steadicam is a must so I gotta explore this possibility with minimal extra cost over the camera and firestore itself.

Thanks!
