Hi all,

Well this has been a long, long time coming. We started making this short for SPY Fest last year and well it took a little longer to put together than anticipated

After numerous problems like losing the edit several times, getting music composed and having to make a living etc....etc....we have come out the other end.

Ok I'll leave it at that and hope you folks enjoy our second outing into the world of short film making!

Hope u like it....

what a ride. Man i likd this. LUVED the lighting...and the bluish tint.

The bad guy was acted perfectly. The lead could use some work.

[SPOILER]

i like the story and that fact that the bad guy wins was good...i like that.

What was this shot on and edited with? Got any behind the scenes stuff? wud luv to see :)
Visual effects. Man u guys rock...i mean duh it looks fake...but for low budget stuff i think this is top notch. Polished and quite professional all around. Aight...i;m gone to watch it again :D

Hey Jambredz,

Thanks for the comments man, really glad you liked it.

It was shot on the DVX100, some scenes using the Redrock micro with nikon lenses.

I edited all in premiere, and effects in after effects.

I'll start posting some BTS as soon as I can!

Wow, an official fan :)

I loved it.
Positives:
Good script, good acting, nice music, great SFX, nice shots, good editing, great look, good action, nice props, nice costumes and a nice twist. The titles were also really good at the beginning.

Negatives:
Quite dark when the bald guy enters the room. Can't see him when he first starts to speak.
Did you record voice overs, as sometimes the lip sink seemed slightly out?

Overall an excellent little film. I'm looking forward to the sequel ;-) 9.5 out of 10 for me.

Oh my, I just watch the Night Shifters. That is also great, if a little corny. I can't wait for the Peretti brothers' next short!

wow both those shorts were amazing! you really need to film some behind the scenes next time and some behind the editing and special effects. If you put that on a dvd as special features youd make a ton, i know id buy it just to see how those shorts were made

In a word, that was awesome. Every aspect of the short stood out in terms of quality and professionalism. My only negative comment is a creative one, rather than how you executed the short - I felt that the lightsaber dagger was a bit of a mistake. I mean the lightsaber is probably one of the most recognizable movie icons, and while the effect by itself is cool, it was popularized too much by star wars, so when the guard whipped it out I immediately recalled star wars and felt that that probably detracted a bit from the overall film. That's just my two cents, and I really needed to think about it to offer any constructive feedback, so great job!

I'd love to do a DVD with all the bits and bobs to help you guys out on yr films. The only thing against me is time, but for the moment I'm happy to answer any questions about the way I went about things.

If I do get time to do a DVD, what sort of BTS features would u guys like to see on it??

Cheers

quite an undertaking... I'm interested to know what kind of budget you were working with...

Later,
Jason

My budget was really very small. The only things that cost money where costume and props. I bought things like plastic guns 'which where cheap and all broke', The guards paintball style masks and their black shirts so they'd all look the same.
It was all shot in my old offices where I worked at the time, so this didn't cost anything. Actors worked for free and friends helped out.
I also had all my equipment I had acquired from my last film.

I would say I spent around £300 all in all.

Wow man, that was some fantastic work.

Would you be able to expand a bit on what was involved in terms of CG? What program was used? Does it take ages to learn how to do some of those visuals?

he used premeire pro for editing and after effects for effects. think he mentioned it somewhere earlier in the thread
