I'm at work now so I couldn't hear any sound.. but I gotta tell you man.. That looked amazing..

This is the sort of thing that makes me NOT want to go over to HD right away.. (+the money :P ) hehe
I just love the DVX!
And you seem to be treating it like it's ment to be treated! :P hehe

Great footage man!

Now even though I didn't hear anything, I still have to ask what kind of mic you used/use..?

 this was very good. great acting all around. man that was sad 2.

some of the audio when the lead is making the tape was a bit low sumtimes.

Great work here.

was great man. lighting came out really well in those dark indoor shots so props to that. acting was also very wonderful. Well played parts.

all of the dark interiors at the party and the band were lit with one 2k and a bunch of regular worklights from a hardware store, some with 3200k globes and some without. we used white baking paper as diffusion :)

loved it!! :D luv the simplicity of ur rig..just bare bones stuff..thats how i want to do it. sometimes just looking on some rigs give me a headache. that sg version flips the image?

and did u put the baking sheets on the lights or held it some distance away?

btw...girl on the bass...HOT!!
goodstuff

BTS is behind the scenes!

i bought an external monitor once.. it just made the whole thing too heavy. and it really wasn't all that much easier to focus. the smaller the setup the better i think. especially coz i do handheld most of the time.

my sgpro doesn't have the flip module. i use a magnet to flip the LCD on my dvx and then flip the footage in post. it's pretty simple coz i found this xml tool that mass flips the footage in FCP. but it only works if your computer can render it on the fly. my G4 just works with dv. it wouldn't work with HD. though HD would work on a new intel mac.

the baking paper was attached to the grill in front of the lights. it doesn't burn. you can see it in the back ground at 00:46 in the bts

SHE'S 17 MAN! :D

lol...now i feel bad for looking..to be fair i didnt get a real good look :D the fact that she's killin that bass iz pretty hot though. moving on :)

oh thats right...baking sheets are meant for heat.

can u explain or give me a link to that magnet image flipping?

as far as i know the magnet trick only works on the dvx100, dvx100A (not the dvx100b), sony FX1 and the sony Z1 and that's it. no other cameras.

basically you put a decent strength small magnet on the hinge of the LCD and the image will flip. the magnet triggers the mirror function that happens when you turn the lcd to face away from you. there are some photos and diagrams on this site and around the net, but you'd have to search for them...

Very nice film. Good cinematography, but maybe too dark in some spots--which is understandable, considering the limitations (or it could just be the compression).

The leads actors were fantastic--very real, and emotional performances from the guys. Unfortunately, I thought the ladies were a bit stiff--not as natural as the guys.

I think the film is too long, though. A tighter cut would definitely pack a stronger emotional punch. Also, a shorter film would make it easier to program in festivals.

One of my pet peeves with user films shot on adapters is the constant loss of focus whenever a character starts moving. I can imagine it wasn't easy shooting with the handheld rig, probably wide open and with no focus puller, but that's why a good focus puller is so important when working with these adapters--unless that was an artistic choice.

But those are just minor quibbles, this is one of the best pieces I've seen on this website. Congratulations to all involved. Too bad this movie's not eligible for Lossfest. I'm sure it would've been one of the top films.

i was thinking the same thing regarding loss fest.

also i kinda do agree with the length ..cutting out a bit of the tape he was making can be a solution. it got a bit repetitive. But i assume thats up to the director and not u. Anyway again good job to all involved.

it was lit pretty moodily (dark) and shot with a high contrast scene file. also the blacks were crushed in most of the scenes. so maybe that has something to do with it..

it was half artistic choice, half my fault. the director wanted the actors to shift in and out of focus - probably more so than what i did. he wanted me to be slow on keeping up with them and glide my way into focus - kinda like blurred vision when your drunk and also the flash back/loss of memory idea. there is the aspect of it being almost impossible to follow someone wide open, but i am much better at following focus than what's in this film :)

a few people have been echoing the "too long" thing. but i doubt we will see a recut. i don't think the director has any intention of entering it into festivals... loss fest would have been cool though.
