can anyone suggest a couple of sites?

Not sites, but belive it or not Smart Sounds QuickTracks are pretty decent for their price (I know you said free but hey, free is pretty hard to come by), and there relatively customizable.

smartsound is good, but there are some "restrictions":

I bought a couple tracks from them back in my game dev days, gotta say I was very pleased!

Depends on what you want to do with it

www.freeplaymusic.com is pretty good, and you can download the full track royalty free for private use. But the fee for public exhibition and festivals can get steep.

You could try jamendo.com
