Theres a big Nikon announcement dec.1 -

nikonrumors.com for info

Now that we all know the camera wars to grab the vid/still DSLR hybrid market are in full flagrante,

It will probably be a new Full frame still/video camera. Ultra secret... RED are also planning an announcement dec.3 to trump this camera...

A friend of mine was at an imaging show in CA this last week, he met a nikon designer, and the designer said that pretty much every new pro nikon camera will have a video option...

Any thoughts/new from anyone else??

Im starting to get tired fo all these announcements. I know they are exciting and changing the direction of filmmaking... I jst want to know when can we buy them?

I'm assuming this will at least be $4,000+ dollars. Anyone care to speculate? I'm also assuming it's the new D3 at 20MP+ with full 1080p with 24fps.

No kidding. I'm especially tired of Jannard announcements. Dec 3rd? What a c#@## tease.

something to remember 10yrs from now :-Happy(DBG):

Does anyone get the feeling that Red doesn't have a clue as to what they want to do. Their last announcement was met with less than enthusiasm by many. Now, a new announcement. If it doesn't compete with the 35FF of the 5DII, don't even bother.

The thing is, Nikon and Canon at least have a camera about a month or so after their announcement, maybe a bit longer...where as RED just announces stuff to try and deter people from buying other products. D90 was like 2-3week wait and the MkII was a month. RED just puts specs on paper.

Jannard said that there will be changes..."expect them"!

These new changes will be even better from wat ive read on reduser. Maybe something affordable? Or sooner release date! $1000 dollar red camera? Would be crazy if u one day go to costco and seen a RED behind the glass display.

Anywhoo, I hope nikon has somthing more then the D3x on December first.

I just want to say HOW MUCH and WHEN CAN WE BUY IT....amusing Nikon fixed its compression, jello, etc. I like RED but it looks like I'll probably never get a chance to purchase one till 2012 so why even bother getting all excited. It's like having a hot stripper telling me she'll call me tomorrow so we can um...fix her computer.

As much as I admire what Red is trying to do, it's basically just getting to the point where I don't care anymore. Sometimes businesses just shoot themselves in the foot by announcing a product too early.....and in the case of red...early is an understatement.

Look, he knows what he has to do, and that's to release a better more capable 5DII in the $3,000 ball park, and I don't even want to hear him open his mouth about it until the hardware is a month away from release like every other manufacturer does it. He's going to make an announcement on 12/3 about a product that's more than a year away from release. Spare me, Jannard. Call me when dinner is on the table, not 6 hours before.

Me too. Also, I am turned off by how they market these brains as if that is the price of the camera. After you have to add in all of the necessary components, it is much higher than the brain prices just to have a functioning camera.

ye, this is one huge freaking chess game thats going to take forever. A few problems though... there are more then 2 players and no rules. Its all about the sneek attack as your opponents make a move. Seems so far that RED is making all the strategy adjustments. But no dinner on the table yet which sucks!

I've been hearing D400 1080p, which I think would likely have a price point around $1800 to $2000 plus kit lens. I would imagine rolling shutter would be better since the higher end Nikons have quicker image processing, but who knows. D300, D200, etc have always had a more professional build and I think its quite reasonable to expect that a D400 would have some manual D-Movie controls.

Just speculation, but I'll be selling my D300 ... a "D4" and D400 release right now just sounds right. A D400 w/ 1080p24 and a decent data rate would really rock. RED obviously thinks so too, given their revised announcement just 2 days after Nikon's. Sorry, RED, but until its shipping I'll presume its once again going to change... Scarlet is vaporware until proven otherwise (which I dearly hope happens soon btw).
