HVX in 24pn with sound sync; record in 24 or 23.976?

So whenever I shoot (up until now) I record sound into the camera. The sound guy I'm working with tomorrow called and asked if he should record sound (on an external deck) as 23.976 (?) or 24. He said he's only been asked to do 24 on his sound recording once for a film transfer. We're just shooting 24pn to save space on cards, but would this mean he would have to record sound in 24? Does 24pn drop into a 29.97 timeline like 24p on the dvx or does it require a 24p timeline?

Thanks.

Shooting 24pN, you'll record sound unless you use a variable frame rate.

There is no 24.000 frame rate; there's either N mode, which is recorded as 23.976, or the other 24p modes, which are recorded in a 60p or 60i stream (like the DVX).

The ease of dropping a 23.976 file into a 29.97 timeline depends on the NLE you use; some can do it without a hiccup; some require some transcoding.

But you should edit it 23.976 anyway.

I'm confused, sorry. So 24pn on the hvx drops into a normal video timeline in fcp the same way the 24p on the cvx does? And if we're shooting 24pn, the sound guy should record in 24 to his external deck or he should still capture it at 23.976?
