Monochrome on camera or on post-production?

i wonder what is better, film in camera monochrome mode or in color and then turn it into b&w...?

If you convert in post you have many many options about how you extract the B&W from the colour.

Yes, you can choose what colors should contribute to the blacks and whites. The look changes heavily if you lean it more to the blues or to the reds and so on.

Camera!

You have to be quite good to achieve the look and punch of the Nikon processing in post.
I like the B&W from the camera a lot especially with the Yellow filter turned on.

It's a setting in the camera. Refer to your camera manual.

Normally i'd say post but with the heavy compression applied i'd do it in camera for a sharper and cleaner look. You can always manipulate the scale with filters, digital or optical.

You can sepia tone the image or you can turn on a red (R), yellow (Y) or green (G) filter in the picture control menu. Experiment.
