Can you add a stroke to an image?

if i bring in an image is there a way i can add a stroke/outline around it? or do i have to do that in photoshop beforehand?

seems like a hassle if i do because i have tons of images on this one project i'm working on.

Under the effect menu>generate>stroke

You need a mask around the object first.

Also, are they transparent?

Click on your layer, then go to Layer->Create Outlines.

This will draw a mask for you AROUND the image. If it's transparent, it'll look even better.
