I am new yo this site, and well I own an HVX200 and a DVX100B I recently saw this 170, can someone tell me how bad A$$ this camera is? And what are its cons and pros. Also I own the M2 RedRock HD System, and wanted to know about the performance of it. And one last question, what is the 6 pin firewire on the HPX170 for? I mean I know it could be to log and capture, but I heard (and I dont believe) that the firewire can be plugged into an external hardrive and record to your hardrive directly? So if I have a 500GB hardrive that means I really do have 500 gigs of video ? hmmm Please someone help me out, Thanks,

Luis,

I don't think anyone will understand what exactly you're trying to ask. Try listing each question individually, because what you said doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

lets take this from the top:

1. the 170 has its pros and its cons. search the forum and READ. there has been a TON covered and it has been reviewed into the ground

2. the redrock is as good as the other leading adapters (SGpro, brevis, and letus) but the each have their own quirks - again search the forum. this also has been covered ad nauseum.

3. the 6pin fw port on the 170 does exactly the same thing as the 4 pin on the hvx200. i gues you CAN log and capture from it, but youre far better advised to transfer your footage to a hard drive first rather than log and capture from your camera...

4. you CAN connect a drive to your camera to transfer whats on your p2 cards - but NOT to shoot to live. but you CAN shoot live to a computer (with appropriate live capturing software) via the FW (or SDI port on the 170) so thats kind of a yes and no answer
