720p 16:9 to look like 1.85:1 or 2.35:1

HOw can i achieve these looks with my 720p footage..??

just croping it into the frame...?

i tried to set it this way Frame Size Aspect ratio to HD960x720 and did set the anamorphic 16x9.
and pixel aspect ratio hd960x720.
it became squeeze.

them i did upsize the image to 110 and did set the aspect ratio to 10.

is littlle bit squeezed yet...

but that is the better look i could achieve.

anyone can give me a light please?

You would have to crop off the top and the bottom with a black matte. Can't really configure the pixels to make it 2.35.
 
yes i was thinking about do a safe mark at my LCD and use these safe marks to shot.

and them crop it in fcp ..

so is this how people usually do to simulate 2.35:1?
 
the only thing i'm cocerned about, is that is too difcult to have backgrounds out of focus...

and this way will be most dificult...cause won't be able to work with zoom shots..

but that the way it is...

save money to buy a letus extreme.

for me the 2:35 looks much more artistic...
and i think harder to achieve a nice framming...


but , i can also see a lot of films that was shoot in 1:85 ,

how to decide??
is there kind of a " rule" for that?

or just open mind for creation with any look desire...?
 
The aspect ratio of your film/movie project is a choice you should make (with the help of your DP if you have one).

In order to do this practically, you want to mark your LCD(s) for the border of the 2.35 frame. Then, while you're camera operating, you can frame your shots so they look good. (Don't frame for anything else but what your intended aspect ratio is).

Then in post you will add a 2.35 mask to achieve the desired effect.



Fun fact: Aliens (the 2nd installment of the franchise) is the only Alien film that was shot in 1.85 aspect ratio. The rest were in 2.35. The reason James Cameron decided to use 1.85 is because he was having trouble getting his special effects to work right during tests in 2.35
