You know you're a filmmaker when...

You know you are a filmmaker when...

... you refer to the films, The Shawshank Redemption, Barton Fink, 1984, O' Brother Where Art Thou, A Beautiful Mind , Fargo, Kundun, The Man Who Wasn't There, The Big Lebowski, and No Country for Old Men, as Roger Deakins Movies!!!

Or,

... You know you are a Filmmaker when...

... You have at sometime, somewhere, written your full name (and middle initial, of course) with the letters, "ASC" after it; just to see, "...What it would look like".

Ok, one more... You know you are a filmmaker when you cried when Kodak announced that it would no longer make Kodachrome film stocks....

Wow... I am tearing up as we speak....

You know you are a filmmaker when you want to talk in private with someone and tell him: "Can I have a close-up of you please?"

When you prefer to see the world through a 35mm lens at 16:9 all the time

When you do something dangerous, and the first thing in your head is "okay, now a CU pan of those spikes, and we'll throw in some synth in post"

When the best memories you have of you're GF or wife are when the lighting on her face was just right...

When you are walking through a newly remodled grocery store and stop in the middle of the fruit section to admire the skillfull lighting setup, and then realize you are blocking the way for many disgruntled shoppers who are giving you that "what the hell?" look.

(This actually happened to me today. Well, save the disgruntled shoppers part, which I know makes it much less cool, but oh well. Honesty is key, I suppose!)

You know your a filmmaker when you fight with your girlfriend, you edit out all the fighting and cut to the make up mating rituals

When you go to see your daughter or sister's Christmas play, and realise how much you'd love to smack the crap out of the stuck up teacher on the Piano slagging off the kids because they arent loud enough, and think how you would improve the play, set up the stage etc.

Or not.

You know your a filmmaker when:

Your looking for a new car and one of the biggest factors is gear storage.

Your looking for a new backpack for skiing/riding, even though you have 5 but non of them store your gear properly.

Every moment of your life, you try and find a shot that would fit the mood or emotion your feeling.

(this ones more genre specific) Your driving in non-familiar area and you constantly look for good bike runs or ski lines, but trying to find ones that would have good shots of them.

My biggest one, I can never watch a ski or bike or snowboard film without picking apart every little bit of it and saying or thinking what you would have done different.

1. You use "check the gate" in everyday conversation.

2. Can't wait to call "Action!"

3. Get drool on your keyboard looking at camera-porn on Zacuto's site, Redrock's site, the list goes on and on and on.........Lost a few keyboards this way, now I wear a bib. Now if these sites would just use models to hold the gear, I would never have to.....................................nevermind.
