Oh my god. I'm not sure I completely agree with your thought process, but I surely applaud your ingenuity and craftsmanship.

I would safely say you have created a monster! :zombie_smiley:

What is between the adapter and film plane? A full on 16mm lens? Macro? Or is it just an achromat?

thats just gluttonous....

DAMN thats gonna need alot of light.....

If he shoots with 500asa film stock (which is quite common) he will probably more or less be even with the HVX200.

He might even be better depending on what lens he is using as an intermediate.

Hvx200= 320iso w/ 2.4 lens (at zoom length) + lens adapter + 35mm lens

16mm= 500iso w/ (?) lens + lens adapter + 35mm lens

If his lens is a 2.8 he is just about even. If it is faster he is ahead... technically.

One of the reasons I love shooting film over adapters is because 35mm film is 500iso and that's it. HVX is 100iso with the adapter on. (perhaps faster if using a fast adapter)

well what if I'm dealing with a nice canon FD 50mm 1.4 and Vision3? I think the shoot went pretty damn well, and I can't wait to post grabs.

I'm asking what the lens is between the film stock and the adapter. What is the f-stop shooting the ground glass?

Vision 3 is a very nice stock by the way. I can't wait for the rest of the platform to be released.

Love the demo Daryn Okada did. The first time I watched it, I was in the Kodak theater (not THE kodak theater... but the one actually in kodak hq)

The K3 is equipped with an f1.9 zoom, which was really nice. The internal meter took a lot of guesswork out of it too.

If the lens stuck to a 1.9 through the zoom, you officially should have better low light sensitivity then an HVX with the same adapter/ lens.

I can't wait to see the grabs. Post them soon! :)

Wow. I'd never think I'd see a 16mm camera with a 35mm adapter.

Let me know how that works for you. You have peaked my interest.

Don't forget that the K3 (well, at least most K3's) has a standard M42/"Pentax screwmount" lens mount, so you could put a faster lens as your intermediate/relay and pick up some speed (as long as you can still frame on the ground glass appropriately).

the problem, Barry, is that the macro capabilities of a lot of these lenses don't match the Meteor lens, and are much slower. There is also an issue with space between the lens and film plane that doesn't allow for many other lenses to be used. Granted, this frankenstein came out of an intense one day prep and test, I'm sure there could be somewhat better options, but as far as we've seen, this is a GREAT solution.

If the grabs turn out, I'm writing a letter to ASC, damnit.

I was considering putting my SGpro on an arricam... maybe i should just so I can trump this photo hahaha :-D

I dunno. Those two pieces of equipment were designed within at least a decade of eachother, and on the same side of the globe. This is a letus extreme and a 50 year old soviet made 16mm MOS camera. It took a lot of tweaking and Jesus had to come over to miracle them together.
