update: 3/28/09 --- MY PSA WON FIRST PLACE IN THE SUPER SHORT (60 sec. or less) CATEGORY AT THE 2009 OPEN APERTURE SHORT FILM FESTIVAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the link to a 60 second PSA I did for a class at my university. I shot on the HVX and edited in premiere and after effects.

Stock lens, 480 24pa.

I have written copy that has yet to be recorded in a studio, as soon as I lay that track down I will update the video and link. For now, tell me what you think.

Oh, and dont kill me on the somewhat "shaky" dolly shot. This shot was done by setting my HVX on top of a step stool on top of a rolling chair and moving across the floor in the library. I had to work with what I had and I like the way it turned out in all.

Thanks
Matt

I thought it was really good, powerful, I enjoyed it.

My mom died of breast cancer almost two years ago now, and she just didn't catch it early enough, the doctor screwed up, didn't think it was anything to worry about. She got rid of it once, and it came back. When it did, it was some of the most virulent stuff the doctors had seen, it spread so fast that when they said she had 2 months to live, it was only 5 weeks. Hopefully, one day, we come up with a cure to what in my mind is the modern-day plague (cancer in general). Everyone just acts like oh, it's this bad disease, you know, happens to some people. NO! Almost everyone dies of cancer anymore. It's like the plague. Until there's a cure, I won't be happy.

Jonathan God Bless you and your family. I wanted to do this PSA for people like your mom. It's very important to catch it early. I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for your reply.

I would love to hear people's opinions of this. Please feel free to reply if you watch it.

Anybody? I feel like this is my best work to date.

nice, the concept is good, it is emotional, so it makes you think,

and that's what you want out of an ad like that,

very good,
Derrick

ps. I'm wondering how it would have looked in color.

You know I was thinking the same thing when I was editing the piece. I felt like the ribbon color was more dramatic and stuck out more when everything else was black and white.

i hear you, maybe if you saturate the ribbon more when in color,

do not under estimate your audience, they'll get the ribbon. No need to overstate the obvious.

your points are 100% valid, and it looks good, but what about just for an experiment, show us a color version for comparision?

thanks,
Derrick

I watched it when you posted it last year, but watched it again and it is still very touching. Was wondering what the update is? Color version? Congrats on your work!

The update is the first line of the original post. I entered it into a short film contest in the super short category (60 seconds or less). It won first place. This is the first thing I have won. :) Lets hope it isn't the last.
