Mic to capture suburbs, rivers and city sounds?

Hello,

I just got the TASCAM HD-P2 and I would like to get a mic to record soundscapes.
I was wondering what mic would be good for a project like that.

Thanks for the help!

There are a few good single-point stereo mics out there. Price range is from around $350 (AT-825, would not go for anything below that) to a few thousand (stuff from Neumann, Schoeps, Sennheiser, and Sanken).

I've owned an AT-825, and it's a good workhorse. It's X-Y pattern. Sold it with my old DAT recorder as a package deal, and I actually miss it. I have a Shure VP-88, which is mid-side, that has been a great mic for me, especially considering the price.

Thanks C2V!

Thanks C2V!

I will probably get the AT-825 to start...would I need a wind protector when working outdoors?

Thanks again.
