Timelapse in Vegas?

I just hacked my Canon A630 to shoot interval sequences and I want to make a timelapse from them.

They are 8MP shots (3264 x 2448) which in of itself might present a problem because my project attributes don't allow for a big enough project.
I also want to be able to pan through them as if they were one clip... I tried nesting it as big as the project properties went but Vegas crashes.

Anyone done this succesfully? :dankk2:

Try batch reducing them in Photoshop to a size no larger than twice your project size (1440x960 for a standard 4:3 DV project, for example).
Do you mean scrub through them on the timeline as though they were a single video file?
I generally render to an uncompressed .avi in Vegas (after adjusting clip and transition length) and use that as a replacement for the individual still files. I'm sure there are other ways of doing it, but that works for me.
Hope this helps.

I mean to crop a 720 x 480 selection out of the big file and then that would allow me to add a nice pan as the 720 is a drop in the bucket of the 3264 horizontal. So I'd like to keep it as big as possible, the more resolution the more I can pan.

I am not sure I understand what you mean about adjusting clip and transition length before rendering to a clip. I wanted to render to a big uncompressed file SO that I could do transitions. ? please explain.

Vegas chokes on files larger than 2k - these definitely need to be reduced. Under Editing preferences, you can choose how many frames / seconds images will be when you import them. Default is 5 sec. But you can bring them in as little as 1 frame per image.

You can still get a really good pan at 720 if the files are around 2000 pixels by 2000 pixels - anything larger and Vegas just isn't happy. Try .png over .jpg too - seems to run smoother in larger image sizes for me.

Thanks Chenopup!

I'll seeif I can figure out how to batch re-size them in Photoshop to the maximum with allowed for project sizes, then import them at 1 frame per image. Then render an uncompressed .avi and appply the pans on the .avi
