Just got a new HPX170...scene files, film look

OK, so I just got a new HPX170.

I heard about getting a good cinematic look with Barry Green scene files that is shown on HVX Bootcamp.

My question is...if I purchased the HVX Bootcamp DVD set, would it be applicable towards my HPX170?

Also, I noticed almost everyone here is using film adapters. Does the HVX170 look fine without any adapters? I'm able to get a good shallow depth of field with zooming it.

And lastly, from your experiences, is the HPX170 better than the HVX200A?

Thanks!

Yes the bootcamp DVDs would be very applicable for a 170. There's more in the 170, so the bootcamp DVDs don't cover everything, but everything they cover is directly applicable to the 170.

As for 170 being better than 200A: there's some discussion going on about side-by-side picture, but as far as features I'm way happier with the 170.

Good question JPUSC. Can you get a good cinematic look by just properly adjusting scene files and zooming to get a shallow dof? Is the $1,000+ DOF adapter worth it?

Yeah, its kinda hard to tell since most of the clips people put up use the adapter. Is it just the depth of field that gives the look, or the lens?

35mm adapters are the most overrated accessory around these parts.

Good lighting, production design, and composition will make your movie look like film a lot more than any adapter.

Shallow depth of field by itself means little. Some of the most cinematic films of all time have large depths of field:

Citizen Kane
2001: A Space Odyssey
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
The Seven Samurai
