A Little Video Shoot I Did Last Week

A friend and associate of mine hired my to do an unscripted documentary on his business partner's home recording studio, while working in references to their company's products, which are acoustic treatment.

It was unscripted, unrehearsed and totally impromptu. Since he wanted to do the editing himself, but was running an older version of Vegas, I gave him MPEG2 files to work with, exported out of Premiere CS3.

Here's what resulted:

We used one Neumann TLM-103 on a boom, stationary and relied upon the studio's acoustic treatment to keep the off-mic audio quite clean.

The music is oooozing with cheese and the zooms were most definitely home video but the characters are interesting even for an infomercial.

you might be better off shooting a few close ups to cut to.

Music was Ethan's composition, not mine. Typical, for this kind of tutorial though.

Without a script, I had not much choice but to use the zoom lens as carefully as possible; a two-camera shoot would have alleviated this, but the budget was really small.

Next week, we're bringing in a female model to do a scripted and sexy/humourous bit about acoustic treatments exposed. It will be steeped in metaphoric references. Fielding the actress that is willing to get naked on-camera has proven to be more difficult than first thought, but that's not my job, so I sit and wait until we get word that we have an actress who isn't backing out at the last minute. But when we finish THAT video, it should be quite somethin'. ;)
